    kerryv(“That depends on how you define the word ‘vote’.”);

*sigh* And people actually want to vote for this incompetent nitwit?

  • http://www.aldaynet.org Tom Alday

it’s like he couldn’t even wait to finish the sentence before flip flopping.

  • http://www.insignificantthoughts.com Vinny

I mean, it’s like a pre-emptive flip flop. Isn’t there some kind of UN ramification for that? :-D

  • http://www.thesteelcage.net Davey

The dude makes no sense. If President Bush had made a comment like this he would have gotten eaten alive.

  • http://spencer.sokols.us/ Spencer

They were trying to repeal $90 billion in tax cuts for the wealthy to pay for spending in Iraq.

  • http://spencer.sokols.us/ Spencer

That was supposed to be blockquoted :) It’s from the same paragraph as the above quote.

  • http://www.insignificantthoughts.com Vinny

Wonderful, so because he couldn’t use the funding of the military to attach a rider to rescind a tax cut, then he voted not to fund our troops. Had they not gotten their money, it would’ve been nice to hear Kerry say “I voted against funding because of tax cuts.”

    What a stand up guy.

  • http://turningwheels.blogspot.com nathalie

it amazes me. all the people who harp on Bush as being dumb, a simpleton, sentence fumbler– they’re gonna vote for this guy? this election year should be interesting. let’s hope bush keeps attacking kerry’s record. he’s no different than any other politician (maybe worse, actually).

  • http://spencer.sokols.us/ Spencer

At some point, you probably will hear him say that. Politicians tell you what you want to hear. For every “flop” you reveal on Kerry’s part, there’s going to be some leftie blog revealing a W. “flop”. I’m sure Kerry would say he voted to not increase our deficit.

You’re absolutely right, Nathalie. He is no different than any other politician. Unfortunately, politicians are all we have to vote for.

  • http://www.insignificantthoughts.com Vinny

So I sauntered over to Kos’s hole, and on it is a list of flip flops. If that’s the most they can accuse the President of, well, no biggie. Most of it is just crap. I don’t see any substantial policy issues being discussed.

Maybe just for shits and giggles, I should take his stupid list and address each one of his supposed flip flops…

  • http://www.robertkbrown.com RKB

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that going back at least as far as Reagan, Senators have all lost the Presidential election. If I ever had aims at the White House, I’d never run for Senate. It’s WAY too easy to do this kind of thing.

Every bill you vote FOR probably has some other shit buried inside it that your opponents will dug up to say you’ve voted AGAINST, and vice versa.

Better to be a former Governor, a former VP, or the incumbent.

  • http://www.insignificantthoughts.com Vinny

I agree. Governor is your best move. Veep gets you associated with the incumbent which isn’t always a good thing.

  • TrooperJohnSmith

Is this guy sounding more Gore-like every day?

Hey, John… did you maybe like, you know, invent the Internet, too?

COME ON! Doesn’t anyone realize that all the Republicans voted AGAINST the 87 billion before they voted FOR it??? Wise up!

  • NSBKILLER

Last time I checked an 85.1 billion dollar bill was passed in the senate, so where is the body armor. Don’t blame Kerry becasuse he voted against a bill when the bill got passed and the troops still dont have what they need. Bush is the commander in chief and the buck stops with him. Kerry knew the bill would be passed and decided to vote against to make a stand against the Republicans because giving Bush a blank check in Iraq doesn’t solve anything.

  • reader

John Kerry voted for the $87 billion dollars in a bill that raised the money by rescinding some tax cuts for those making over $200,000.

He voted against a second $87 billion dollar proposal that offered no explanation for how the funds would be paid for.

That’s called being a fiscal conservative. When you spend money, you first figure out how to pay for it.

  • http://www.insignificantthoughts.com Vinny

Then stand up, say you voted against the money, and that’s the end of it.

But this “I voted for it before I voted against it” stuff is bullshit.

Either you voted for it, or you voted against it.

Obviously Kerry doesn’t share all your wonderful views because he’s never expressed any of them.

  • reader

Vinny, it isn’t an either/or question because he was talking about two different bills. He supported one, he didn’t support the other. Where are you getting confused?

  • reader

Vinny, everyone in Congress already kenw the troops would get their money. The only question was: will government be responsible in paying for it?

The Republicans said no. So much for fiscal conservatives.

  • http://www.insignificantthoughts.com Vinny

He voted against the $87 billion.

He did not vote for it.

    End of discussion.

  • Mephistopheles

Yes, and? Make a point, dont just state the obvious. Youre not a news outlet, give us your opinion and why you think its a bad thing that he voted against it.

I, for one, am glad he voted against it, and voted “for it” in an alternative way, by attempting to repeal tax cuts. Where is this $87 billion coming from? Oh yea, the deficit… Maybe Bush should have thought about the long term. You know, money doesnt come out of nowhere.

  • http://www.insignificantthoughts.com Vinny

    Still voted against it.

    Doesn’t matter why.

    Doesn’t matter how.

I guess in your mind it doesn’t even matter that just days before he called anyone who would vote against it irresponsible.

  • Dan

It’s unbelievable how some people eat up this “flip-flop” stuff. Doesn’t anyone realize they’re mindlessly repeating what they hear in campaign ads? First, Kerry supported the original measure when others did not. I.e., he SUPPORTED the funding BEFORE the majority of the REPUBLICAN-LED Senate did. So call them flip-floppers if you want. Second, the reason people switched from yea to nea or vice versa is that there were TWO DIFFERENT BILLS (as a comment noted). I don’t want people who represent me to simply vote for ANY $87 billion. I want them to think about what makes sense. Kerry knew a bill would pass. He just wanted to make sure it was the right one.

It’s better to take the time to think things through before mindlessly spouting campaign propaganda.

Not to mention that Bush has flip-flopped more times than I can count. Remember his no-nation-building pledge from 2000? He used to support states’ rights on marriage. He flipped on steel tariffs and then flopped back. He’s flip-flopped on Israel-Palestine. He flip-flopped on going to the UN in Iraq. He’s flip-flopped on global warming. I could go on. But I suppose you won’t listen to me, since I’m not a campaign ad.

p.s. Here’s the biggest flip-flop of all time. From 2000: “I want to change the tone of Washington to one of civility and respect.” Or how about this 2000 pledge: “A generation shaped by Vietnam must remember the lessons of Vietnam: When America uses force in the world, the cause must be just, the goal must be clear, and the victory must be overwhelming.”

  • http://www.insignificantthoughts.com Vinny

I think for all your pontificating, you’ve done nothing to address the point of the quote. He voted for it before he voted against it?

Give me a break, grow some balls, and say you voted against it.

Otherwise sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up.

  • http://www.chapel-perilous.net bsti

the foul language and insults towards commenters kind of bothers me. It’s like you don’t WANT open discussion on your posts. I’m sure your commenters can handle it, but it just seems over the top, especially when all you offer is an insult instead of an intelligent rebuttal.

And here comes the witty retort~
Shut the fuck up, Sylvain. Your opinion means nothing here anyway.
This from a kook in bumfuck oregon who thinks Rumsfeld laughed when 911 happened.
There, I said it for you.

Here’s a thought; instead of being so reactionary, PROVE how the commenter is wrong, rather than telling them to shut up.

Ah well, I’m finding that this is how republicans argue their points.
I’m Right, You Are Wrong, Shut The Fuck Up.
And Sigh, yes, I will keep coming back to get smacked with a spitball.

  • http://www.insignificantthoughts.com Vinny

Some points aren’t worthy of discussion. Whether or not Kerry voted against the 87 billion is one of them.

You can’t vote for something and then vote against it. You vote against it and it’s recorded that you voted against it.

Particularly after Kerry said anyone who did so was irresonsible and reckless, he did it anyway.

Enough already. You can all twist every word to defend Kerry all you want, but don’t expect me to join in.
