Just imagine…

Imagine if you worked for a company, say United Steel Associates.

In working for that company, you miss 2/3 of the year by staying home and not coming to work. You do this consistently for years. Your reaction when you’re questioned by your supervisor? “Showing up to work is only a small part of my job.”

But then, as if that isn’t enough, you ask for a promotion, and in campaigning your company for a promotion, you keep missing work.

So in the end, you’ve missed months and months of work, but you have the stones to ask your supervisors for a raise and a promotion.

Think that would fly in the real world?

John Kerry does…

Vinny, In all fairness, this applies to all professional/career politicians.
This in it’s self is reason enough for term limits.
An person holding a public office for longer than 8 years is no longer a public servant, they are a leach.

    I totally disagree.

NY was in much better shape with D’Amato and Moynihan running the show. They had tons of clout in the Senate and they got things done.

Hillary has done nothing for this city, and Shumer spends every weekend having press conferences on everything but doing nothing.

I don’t like term limits. If people wanna vote you in 30 times, it should be their right.

It’s fine for those who stay for 30yrs. They chair all the committees that have the real power. If your a freshman your sucking hind tit. In order to get things done you have to play the staying game and the longer you play the game the more you become the game.
Don’t you find it a little disturbing that so many professional politicians come in as middle class/upper class citizens and retire multi millionares, all while earning a hundred and fifty thou. a year?

Yet another good point. Can’t argue with that.

Funny thing about the professional politics game: (and this from an ‘amatuer’ politician, local village board member)

When Bob Dole ran for President, he was pressured into resigning from the Senate to concentrate on his campaign.

How come this hasn’t happened with Kerry, or any other Democratic candidate that I can recall in the past 30 years?

I agree that term limits should exist. When you look at a decision that a politician makes, it is quite often based on what will get them re-elected instead of what is good for the country/state/city/whatever.

This is what creates appeasment candidates verus candidates that will take stands on issues.

    Only problem:

If you have term limits, you still have re-election. You also have lame ducks in their final term… Not really digging that idea. I think, sometimes, that the only thing that keeps politicians actually doing something is the fact that they have to answer for what they do.

Take away the accountability, and what’s the incentive to actually work?
