Poll: Most Americans Oppose Gay Marriage

Yahoo! News – Poll: Most Americans Oppose Gay Marriage

Remember when I asked about a month ago if pollsters were just asking the question over and over again until they get the answer they’re looking for?

You have to wonder why they poll on this question so much. I’m really serious. I understand presidential approval ratings and such, but gay marriage? Pollsters, get over it. A majority of americans oppose it anywhere from 49-66 in every single poll given.

Enough already. 6 months of polling has not changed anyone’s mind.

Should governments do what the majority says?

  • balbulican

Only if the blogger agrees with what the majority says. If not, the blogger must then call upon the government to exercise “brave leadership” in the face of a recalcitrant electorate that must be educated to realize What Must Be Done. Like, when a population disagrees with their government’s participation in the coalition of the shilling…that’s wrong, and the government must not cravenly “give in”, but should “stay the course”.

We’re talking about pollsters polling until they get the answer they want. Don’t have me give you another lecture on reading comprehension.

And as for governments, it’s up to the majority. If the majority wants something and the government doesn’t deliver, then the majority has the right to vote them out, so I guess they should do what they say if they want to get re-elected.

Vinny> I understand your reasoning and even though I support same sex marriage, I am reluctant to use the courts to do it.

I would agree that for the time being, the US isn’t very likely to have same sex marriages legalized in the US, though some states may do so as is their right.

I don’t share your position, but I see where you’re coming from.

I’m not talking about anything but people repeatedly asking the same question and the results not changing. Why would you ask, every single day, how someone feels about gay marriage when you’ve been asking for at least the last six months and every single poll has, within a few points, showed the same thing?

At some point you have to accept the answer and move on.

I am writing my masters thesis in Political science on the “culture war” over gay marriage in America. I would appreciate your comments about what marriage and homosexuality mean in contemporary American society and to you in particular.
