Kerry Points Fingers, Instead of Biting it Off, Media Suckle It

Kerry asserted the following with regards to the medals are ribbons ribbons are medals issue on Hardball:

“This is a controversy that the Republicans are pushing.”

Ummm, no. Good Morning America found the story, Good Morning dug up the tape, and Good Morning America interviewed you. No Republican involvement. In fact, Charlie Gibson, the person who did the interview, said in the interview that he was there when Kerry made his demonstration.

But how have the media reported it?

Almost every story, contrary to the fact that it was uncovered by Good Morning America and no Republicans were interviewed, the lead line usually looks like this:

“Responding to Republican critics on Good Morning America, Democratic Presidential Candidate John Kerry denied…”

Why doesn’t someone ask him which Republicans work at Good Morning America?

Why doesn’t someone ask him why he’s blaming Republicans for the controversy when Good Morning America had at least 3 different tapes of John Kerry changing his story on the issue?

Why the fuck will no one press this man on any of his ridiculous claims?

Because he’s a Bush Critic(tm) and Bush Critics(tm) are given a platform, not an interview.

The reason Kerry and the liberals (media included) can get away with this is because a large section of the American public is dumb, lazy, and ignorant when it comes to the issues of the day. They are more interested in reality TV and sports. That is their right, but what really irks me is that these uninformed individuals have the same weight as an informed person at the polls. These people cancel out my vote! It takes a bit of sacrifice to stay informed, but anyone can do it if they want to. In today’s world information is everywhere, one just has to have the desire to search for it. The Left -Wing in this country want and benefit from an ignorant public. The Media which is crucial to our democracy has not been doing their job for years. It’s job should be to REPORT the news, and let the public decide on the issues of the day. We all know that in most cases, that is not happening.

Yup, that’s right. It’s left wing manipulation that have convinced that Iraqis were piloting the planes on 9/11, that Saddam had nukes, and that Kyoto is an international plot against the USA. Oh, those liberal media types. Thank God for unfiltered, objective, unbiased sources like right wing blogs.

Nice balb. More generalized and unverified examples of Right-wing media bias. Could you be any more disingenuous?

One must generally pay to watch “right wing” media. People have to own computers, and pay to receive internet service to read these “right wing” blogs. Liberal media on the other hand is generally free. Not only on the big three networks and local affiliates, but peppered throughout TV sitcoms, advertising, and documentaries. Not to mention our public schools.

Pete, let’s hope that our fellow ” dumb, ignorant and lazy Americans” are too dumb, ignorant and lazy to make it to the polls.

Vinny you are confusing entertainment with reporting the news.
America has no real news reports that are availible on TV. We have televised op-ed stories.
There is no such thing as unbiased television reporting. The medium is too expensive, the networks must insure a percentage of the market share… hence the news entertainment.

  • balbulican

I’m sorry, Jeremiah…I was commenting on right wing blogs. Was there a point you were trying to make?

  • http://members.cox.net/truth-seeker Chet

    Key word, folks: Right-wing.

“Right-wing bloggers” don’t claim to be unbiased. They put their bias out front for everyone to see and judge for themselves. The mainstream media offers no such courtesy.

  • http://www.insignificantthoughts.com Vinny

And that’s no minor distinction either…

I announce my bias; as do people like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Steve Malzberg, and others. However, liberally biased folks like Peter Jennings and Tom Brokaw would never even consider admitting any kind of liberal bias, even though five minutes of their “reporting” would easily demonstrate that bias.

I always chuckle at people who answer claims that, for example, ABC is biased, with “So is Rush Limbaugh.”

No shit, Sherlock… Rush is a conservative commentator. See how that works?

  • balbulican

There are avowedly right wing media and media commentators, and avowedly left wing media and media commentators. No one disputes that. Heads butt when right wingers declare what to them is the self evident fact that allegedly non-partisan media are all libs, while left wingers shake their heads in astonishment at what they perceive to be the clear conservative bias of allegedly non-partisan media.

It’s simply a question of perspective. The further to the right or left you are, the greater the percentage of media bias on the other side you will perceive.

Of course, trying to convince you lot of that of that is like trying to sell a menorah to a mullah.

  • http://www.insignificantthoughts.com Vinny

Just for discussion fodder: I’ve never heard a lib dispute media bias claims by saying there isn’t one; just that the examples used to show it, no matter how frequent and how obvious aren’t examples of bias. At least that’s been my experience; your results may vary.

  • balbulican

Yeah, I know the feeling. I’ve never met a con who was able to understand that cherry picking examples to prove a point doesn’t add up to squat.

  • http://members.cox.net/truth-seeker/ Chet

    “cherry picking examples…”

Erm… Isn’t cherry picking part of what giving an example is by definition? If you gave the entire thing, that’s no longer just an example, is it?
