Birdstone? What the hell’s a Birdstone?

Did anyone happen to catch the Belmont yesterday?

I know it was big news and you’re probably sick of hearing it, but that was an absolutely stunning defeat for Smarty Jones. Of course, immediately, the horse that won was forgotten and the Smarty Jones camp was interviewed excessively.

Congrats to Birdstone for winning (by a quite heavy margin) over the 2 to 5 favorite.

Razzes for NBC Sports for paying much more attention to the loser than the winner.

the winning and losing “teams” were incredibly gracious and classy. the winners even expressed a little regret and lots of surprise. it was a great race all around, and the owners/trainers/jockeys were all class acts.

See, the teams were great. I agree with you there. My bone to pick is with NBC. They just looked downright idiotic. It was like they had the Smarty celebration ready to go, and then decided to have it anyway when he lost and just changed some of the content.

Either way it was as entertaining as it gets and it was a blast to watch (even though they did preface it with an hour of Smarty cheerleading).
