Entertainment Stuff

Okay, so what have I been doing lately? Well, listening to music and playing video games.

Here’s what’s in the iPod and the PlayStation / Gamecube…

Ipod
Bond – Classified (Phenomenal CD: Classic meets Club!)
Martina McBride – Evolution (Greatest hits, greatest singer)
Carolyn Dawn Johnson – Dress Rehearsal and Room With a View (amazing country; and she’s Canadian!)
Maroon 5 – Songs About Jane (One of the best CD’s ever. Period.)
Evanescence – Fallen (Still at the top of the list)

PlayStation 2
SSX 3 (Best snowboarding game ever)

Gamecube
Zelda Collection (Almost through Zelda 1, then will keep going and play them in order)
Soul Calibur 2 (Amazing fighting game. Absolutely amazing. What else can I say)

Pocket PC
No Limit Hold ‘Em (Poker similar to what’s being played on World Poker Tour)
Bejeweled (If you haven’t played this, you’re too far under a rock to understand)
Tip Top (One of the best games Popcap has ever done)

What’s going on in your music / video game world these days?

I am not allowed to have video games as it distracts me from my (silly sock) work, and don’t have the self control to put the control down and spend time with my wife. It’s best, or I’d never leave this room, the addiction is that bad.

The ban is a mutual agreement. We’ve been down that road.

City of Heroes, off and on. Same with Tiger Woods Golf 2004. Been actually getting through many more books lately, including Red Son, a great Superman book where, by dint of half a day of the earth’s rotation, young Kal-El’s rocket lands in the Soviet Union instead of America — imagining the Cold War with Supes on the side of the Soviets.

    Music:

    1) Brass Monkey’s “Fire of Flame” (British traditional folk meets British silver band/colliery instrumentation under the guidance of Martin Carthy, God of the original mid-sixties British folk revival.
    2) Ellington at Newport 56 (Recently re-released: Duke’s famous comeback concert in its entirety, featuring an incredible 27 chorus solo by Paul Gonsalves, who, stoned out of his mind, forgot to stop playing and created one of the most extraordinary live musical moments of the century. No kidding!
    3) Van Lear Rose, Loretta Lynn…White Stripes meets Coal Miner’s Daughter.

    Game:

Still trying to kill that big German in the last scene of Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Any ideas?

    Ugh

I got stuck in RTCW on the level where you have to sneak inside the truck and get inside the base. I was doing real well up until that point, but never got past that. It’s the fourth or fifth mission.

Any help with that one would be greatly appreciated ;-)

I must have gotten through it. Remind me. Is that the one where the truck drives through a long tunnel and two guys get out? If so, did you have the silenced rifle and scope?

I have to be honest with you… I got it the Christmas it came out, and played it for about two weeks afterward and gave up so I don’t even remember!

I may put it up this week and see if I can re-acquaint myself…

Maroon 5 – Songs About Jane is a sick song. Although I don’t agree with you rooting for Hillary for president though. :)

Maroon 5, that’s a good CD, but not one of the best ever… Best ever have to go to some amazing albums… Thriller, Appetite for Destruction, Abbey Road/Sgt Pepper, Tapestry… etc. There are some good CDs now, like Songs About Jane, Get Born (Jet), Winning Days (the Vines), Elephant (White Stripes). I’ve got Brandi Carlile on… both her albums are great. The Magic Numbers kick ass.

I turn into a zombie when I play video games. After losing a whole weekend to a single game, I gave them up.

Eh… To be honest, I’ve never been much of a Maroon 5 fan. It’s not that I dislike them, they just don’t do anything for me…

Try something more folksy or, perhaps, a little ‘Rock-a-billy.’ I can’t get enough of “Return of the Greivous Angel: A tribute to Gram Parsons.” Artists include: Beck, David Crosby, Gillian Welsch, Emmylou Harris, Wilco, Whiskeytown (Before Ryan Adams’ solo career), Steve Earle, and others. It’s an eclectic blend of brilliant musicians and their renditions help to underscore the significance of Parsons’ genius.

Speaking of Steve Earle… always rockin’ it. Son Volt, one of my favorite bands, is ranked high on the playlist and, when I start to feel like too much of a hick, I listen to Common.

Gram Parsons… nice. I’ve been meaning to check that out. I like some of Son Volt… I’ve never heard of Common. I’ll have to take a listen.

Today was a bit of Iron and Wine and then Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.
