The Coverage is Almost As Bad As the Covention

I swear I could’ve puked.

Last night, while at my inlaws and tied to the couch and forced to watch my wife’s grandmother talk about what a great speaker Ted Kennedy is and how Ann Richards was so great, and so on, I was pretty much SOL if I wanted to watch anything but the convention on Covers Nothing News, so I rolled with it.

After El Drunko’s empassioned speech was over, Wolf Blitzer gushed about what a great speaker he is, and then threw it down to the floor where “political analyst” Daniel Schneider was asked what his impression of the speech was. His deeply analytical answer? Paraphrasing (but only ever-so-slightly):

“Did you notice who’s in the crowd? Maria Shriver. She’s also a Kennedy, and she’s here with the rest of the Kennedy clan to cheer on John Kerry. She’s also going to be at the Republican National Convention because her husband, Arnold Schwarzenegger is the Governor of California and a Republican. She’s an honored guest here and will be an honored guest there.”

This is the analysis Daniel Schneider is paid to give. There was nothing more to it, btw. His analysis of Ted Kennedy’s speech is nothing about the speech and all about who was in the audience listening to it.

Is it any wonder why I can’t be bothered watching this contrived crap? I mean, if I liked the speakers it would be different. At least I could tune out the commentary and just watch the speakers. But to not like the speakers and get that kind of idiotic commentary from people paid to examine speeches and speakers is just the dumbest possible combination for anyone that wants something to do.

It’s painful, Vinny – no matter what channel you’re watching it on. You were forced to do it — me? I willingly subjected myself to the stuff. I need a 12-Step program.

I don’t get why they are bothering with a convention in the first place. They’re just running around holding each others hands and telling how great they are. There’s not even arguing this year. Boston is blowing abou 60 million on security in addition to the countless non taxpayer dollars spent on this big, pointless party

I think there is a lesson here:

Don’t visit with Ted loving relatives during convention ;)

I am like Lisa – - I am doing this to myself and watching the speeches and going insane about the goo they are spewing.

I’m going to try not to watch today.

A statement, of course, that can be easily recycled in about another month or so, replacing “Boston” with “New York.” Ahh… the joy of political conventions when the party nominee has already been decided.

I love you. No I love you. I love you more. I love you infinity. I love you infinity plus one….

Ted Kennedy really needs to something with those saddle bags they call jowels..

HAHAHAHAHA! I haven’t watched a second of it, and won’t watch next month’s either.

Wolf is about the most incompetent anchor I’ve ever seen. He hasn’t improved any since he was a point man in Gulf War I. I guess CNN really can’t be choosey any more.

For the first time in my life, the republican party has sickened me enough to look for an alternative.

I agree that Ted Kennedy was pathetic, but what did you think of Obama?

I thought he made an impassioned speech that touched on many of the issues that seem to ail this country.

And what did you make of Edward’s speech today in which he outlined specific policy proposals? His speech was structured and thoughtful and provided real answers to many of America’s problems.

Why don’t you engage in discussion and provide real commentary, rather than dismissing it out of hand. Of course, a lot of it is political theater, but some of it was actually substantive.

Good day. Of course, I hope some of the bloggers will step out of their self-contained world of mutual reassurances and will be prepared to question their own assumptions.

What is conservative about running a huge deficit in the name of improving security while at the same claiming that the money is not there to implement the technology to inspect what comes through our ports?

That’s just one of many issues. And the economy stinks. My wife’s company has done a complete wage freeze for the next two years as has the university where I teach

Why don’t you stop judging my site by one post.

I was pointing out just how silly the whole thing has become. A “political analyst’s” only comment on Kennedy’s speech was that Maria Shriver was in the audience.

What kind of discussion is that?

And Vinny that is the last we have seen of the Kennedys. Usually you see them every night, but not this time. Teddy got his party so I guess the partys over? I’m with you Lisa, I force myself to sit there and then I usually end up saying HUH? or But you didn’t say anything about….Ah politics!

Regarding John Edwards speech and his two Americas theme, I have one question. Which America is Mr. Edwards and John and Terezzzza Kerry part of? What is Mr. Edwards solution to this two Americas problem? Does he want to make the poor rich or the rich poor? Will he sacrifice his wealth and privledge. The fact is that society will and should not ever be equal as far as prosperity is concerned. Equal rights? YES! Equality regarding economics, it’s called communisum. Remember communisum? The fact is that some people are smarter, more motivated, more willing to take risks, more talented than other people. In general those people are more prosperous than those who don’t have one or more of those traits. It’s just human nature. No policy or law can change that. The great thing about America is that if you don’t have any of those traits, you can work to aquire them. It’s called perseverence! Just remember, Cuba has equality. Everyone is equally poor and miserable.

You should have made an off the cuff comment like

“I thought John Kennedy was pretty good but didnt Ted Kennedy have some sort of trouble with some girl way back when?”

That would have probably shut her up.
