While accusing others of doing nothing…

While accusing the President (who was signing the defense appropriations bill yesterday) of doing basically nothing in the war on terrorism, we had to suffer through this comment by Kerry from the Unity 2004 Journalists of Color conference:

I believe I can fight a more effective, more thoughtful, more strategic, more proactive, more sensitive war on terror that reaches out to other nations and brings them to our side and lives up to American values in history.

Am I the only one who is perplexed at the idea of a “sensitive” war on terrorism?

“Excuse me Mr. Terrorist. You look tired. May I kill you before you kill me? I’m really sorry to have to do this…”

Ugh. Touchy. Feely. Bullshit.

I’m afraid this is a growing trend. I recently saw a report where the pentagon is investing millions of dollars in new “non lethal” weapons for our military. Just great! Pretty soon the only human being one will be allowed to kill will be a fetus.

Isn’t fetal homicide written somewhere in the Constitution?

Planned Parenthood and various Feminist groups seem to think so…

i think by “sensitive” and “thoughtfull” he was referring to reducing civilian casualties of war/ prisoner abuse that kinda thing not “shoot Osama in the foot not between the eyes”.

Pete from Astoria: I think i read that the military were developing these non-lethal weapons for riot control and that sort of thing…in war you don;t always want to kill the enemy either…sometimes they are more usefull alive for the info. they can produce.

    Sensitive and thoughtful war.

How nice. I’m sure that’ll help many people sleep better at night. We don’t wanna kill them before they kill us. We just wanna injure them really badly.

was that last one in response to me vinny?

Yes it was. I think the idea of a “sensitive war” is idiotic. War is not sensitive. Taking prisoners doesn’t make it sensitive.

Sensitive means getting a permission slip from the bought-and-paid-for UN, asking France and Germany to turn on Iraq while they’re receiving kickbacks, and asking everyone’s permission before we fire on a mosque that terrorists are using for a fortress to shoot us at.

I’m sorry, but that’s not the way war is fought.

This has been getting more play lately, because Cheney lashed out against Kerry in a similar fashion. Figured I’d point you in the direction of several key administration figures, and their statements on how important it is to be sensitive. Now a lot of those quotes aren’t in the right context, where “sensitive” means “to be aware of”, but others fit the touch-feely definition pretty well.

    This one, for example:

    1. “Because America is powerful, we must be sensitive about expressing our power and influence.”
