Ch Ch Changes…

Funny thing this whole “weight loss” thing.

Wife and I went out to dinner last night. That’s not the weight loss part, don’t jump ahead ;-)

Anyway, we ate a really good dinner. Appetizer and entree, and we knew we were going to be high on the calorie scale for the day. So what did we do? We walked. Not just around the mall we ate dinner in to a few stores… Laps… Around all four floors…

To put it in perspective the mall runs about 8 city blocks and is four floors high. We walked around after we ate, and after the mall started to close, we started doing laps.

Now the funny part.

We both enjoyed it. We walked at a very very strong pace, and we were a little huffy puffy when we finished, but you know what? As with most of the exercise I’ve engaged in since I started this “make less of me” endeavour it felt great.

There was a time about a year ago where I would have just parked closest to the entrance where I was going and walked straight out after dinner. Now that isn’t even a consideration. I know after I eat that I have to blow some of those calories or I’m going to wake up the next morning unhappy with myself. Think about that, also. I care enough about myself now to be unhappy when I don’t do well at dinner.

I’ve been to that mall three times in the last month. I used to go directly to Best Buy and the Apple Store. Now I go to Sports Authority, Modell’s, and the local Sportswear joint. If I wanted to, I could actually shop at stores I used to just buy gift certificates for other people at. I was in the sports section of Barnes and Noble buying a bike repair manual (I don’t really need it, but there are some things I want to know about my bike before I overhaul it at the end of the season) and a cycling magazine that featured some Olympic tech on the bike track.

It’s fun, and it feels great, and maybe that’s what’s keeping me doing it. I care about my health now. I care about my appearance much more than I used to. People notice it, and I love it :-)

    You’re the man, Vinny.

BTW – what happened to the Texas move? I even posted a link about it to get some tips for you. (Well really it was just to insult Texans one more time) But it’s the thought that counts right?

I’m very proud of ya. Looking forward to some before and after pictures.

I’m afraid I may have reached my weight loss limit. I’ve been exercising best I can (walking two to three miles a day in the heat pushing my 21 month old daughter in the stroller at a pretty fast pace), watching what I eat, being careful with my portions… And yet somehow I have gained 5 pounds this week and I’ve no idea why. I’m pretty bummed about it right now. Of course, I have no thyroid so I’m sure that is part of the problem since my dosage of hormone isn’t quite settled yet. But it’s still discouraging. But I love hearing about your weight loss and the progress you make every week. It helps motivate me to try harder. You have been a real inspiration.

Keep up the great work. You’re a strong man to accomplish what you have so far.
