Anxiety is killer!

So continuing onward with the trend of slowly but surely changing my life, I sold my laptop today.

That’s right, my beautiful Dell Inspiron 300m, which weighs a measly 2.8 pounds and made me the happiest computer user on the planet? It’s gone. I sold it to the owner of my company for a grand. Why?

Because I didn’t really need it.

See, I’m not going to travel for business anymore (if I can avoid it), and I just flat out didn’t need it sitting in my house. The only reason I really held on to it for as long as I did was because I was just too damn lazy to go over to the desk and use, what Chelle would call, my crackwhore.

So what do I decide to spend the money on?

Come on, have you been paying attention lately? What else would I spend the money on?

Here are the two final contenders:

The Specialized Sirrus

and

the Trek 1000.

I haven’t quite made up my mind. I’m leaning toward the Specialized Sirrus, only because I figure until I get down to my goal weight, the drop handlebars would be a bit challenging, and I’d prefer not to stress my back more than I had to. On the other hand, the Trek is more of a traditional road bike and would place me in a more aerodynamic position making high speed riding much easier.

Decisions, decisions!

I’m not sure which I’ll pick, but one thing’s for sure: After Labor Day’s ride and getting thrashed thoroughly by a guy on a 30 year old road bike, mountain bikes are not for me. I want to go fast. Very fast. I have hit the gearing limit with my current bike. Add to that the weight of the bike (probably about double my new one coming this weekend) and the amount of rubber meeting the road, and you have a recipe for a slow and painful ride.

So this weekend I trade in a geeky toy for a sporty toy.

Oh, and this past weekend I acquired a Bowflex so I can strength train over the winter months. I’m gonna get back into fighting shape if it kills me.

So that’s been my last few days.

Next weekend I’ll be picking up the Bowflex. This weekend the new bike. I may order another stationary bike for the wife to use so we can train side by side. We shall see. We also have the Nordic Track.

In other words, we have lots of stuff. Healthy stuff.

And I smile every time I think about how this time last year we had nothing at all of the sort.

Please let me know what you think of the Bowflex. Gary has been wanting one for over a year now. But with buying a new home and all the little stuff to go with it, we lack the finances to get him a new toy. However, if I hear from a few people who own one that it is a good investment, I just may go out of my way to buy one for my hubby… and with my doctor’s approval, use it myself.

Never heard a bad word about them. There are a couple of different models, though, in a few price ranges, so you might be able to swing one easier than you think ;-)

My bike is the Trek 1000 (2000 year model) and I can tell you that it rocks. They’re incredibly light.

I just got back inside from jogging alongside my 6 year old daughter as she rode around the block for the very first time all by herself with NO training wheels. Best part was I didn’t have to run hunched over trying to keep the bike upright – she could finally do that on her own. Worst part is I had to jog the whole time because she is still unsure of herself and was terrified of falling. So now I’m sitting here with my body protesting it’s very existance… but I still feel good. :)

Course ya do :-) I’ll readily admit: I cannot run or jog.

    That’s why I cycle :-)
