RIP Chris…

I hope somewhere down the line we don’t hear his name tossed out by saying he died waiting for stem cell research funding and holding out hope and all that other hokey shit.

Ronald Reagan’s death was turned into a public cry shamelessly by his son. Let’s hope Christopher Reeve doesn’t become just a “see, I told you so” in his death.

lets remember how he died and why before his death he could not give a rats ass about spinal research he just want to enjoy his money he fell off his horse thats the brakes “umptee dumbtee……..” its over while i dont like to hear about death but was it just me who could not stand to look at him anymore sorry i just dont feel that bad

Carmine, while I don’t like to be cynical about death, I confess I get annoyed at the media beatification of celebrities who happen to experience the kind of tragedy that other folks suffer every day, without the glory.

Michael Landon, Lady Diana, Christopher Reeves…rich folks who put a small part of their fortune and energy into doing good works, died, and were declared saints by the media. Maybe they were good folks…maybe they were jerks. I don’t know, I never met them. But I think the real heroes are the researchers, the health care workers, and the folks who give up money and time that they DON’T have too much of.

Vinny, you can bet it will be used, and I suspect soon! Like this Wednesday evening during the presidential debate. Mr. Kerry mentioned Chris Reeve during last Friday’s debate, when he called him a friend. If Mr. Kerry was indeed friends with Mr. Reeve, then he should have known that Mr. Reeve was already in bad shape at the time. So Mr. Kerry has already started using his “friends” illness, and ultimate death for political gain.

Congratulations! Balbulican was right. You turned it into a political statement before anyone else could. By hoping that it isn’t turned into a political crusade for stem cell research don’t you feel that you labeled research supporters as perhaps morbidly opportunistic?

I was saying I was hoping it wouldn’t be turned into a political issue because Kerry mentioned both Nancy Reagan and Christopher Reeve at the debate Friday.

I was hoping his death would pass without someone like Kerry saying “My friend Christopher Reeve died while waiting for stem cell research advancements. How many more lives blah blah blah.”

See, saying I hope something doesn’t become political is not making it political. In fact, I don’t think I could be more clear in what I had hoped for in terms of politicizing Reeve’s death.

But since you, Patrick, must jump upon every word I say, go right ahead if it makes you feel better.

I guess Pete and I were the only ones that watched the debate on Friday night. Kerry specifically mentioned Reeve, and his hopes for embryonic stem cell research. “he’s exercising his muscles every day… blah blah blah” it was political long before he died.

Wow. So now John Kerry can predict the future? And he’s so shameless with his precog abilities that he mentioned Christopher Reeve on Friday in order to make political hay out of his unexpected death yesterday?

Back to the post: My first impression on reading the post was that you were hoping people “on the other side” (pro-research) wouldn’t jump on this for political gain. Upon re-reading it, I’m not so sure. Care to clarify?

“Christopher Reeve died while waiting for stem cell research that Bush opposes (which is not true, of course, but the rhetoric is that he doesn’t approve any). How many more ‘Chris Reeve’s have to die before we wake up to the advancements of blah blah blah Let’s not make his death for nothing blah blah blah”

Well did you ever notice the simularities between names the TV SUPERMAN was GEORGE REEVES and the movie SUPERMAN was CHRISTOPHER REEVE and they both die young is there a simularity or a councedence?:shock:
