Rendell Makes a Weak Compromise; Gets Sued Again

Ed Rendell, Governor of Pennsylvania was making the talk show rounds today pounding home his caring and kindness with regard to the absentee ballot issue in Pennsylvania.

But despite the fact that absentee ballots take weeks to reach the United States, the extension that Rendell is so proud of only accounts for an additional eight days, meaning there are still going to be thousands of soldiers who will not get their ballots in even with the new extension.

Astounding as that might be, let’s have a real chuckle at this little tidbit which came out today courtesy of John Pippy, a State Senator from Allegheny Pennsylvania (and a Republican):

In the state’s April 27 primary, Rendell successfully sought court orders to extend the deadline for absentee ballots from military families and overseas voters until May 17 – three weeks after the election.

Excuse me?

The primaries were so important that they got an additional three weeks, but the general election in a battle ground state is not important enough to give more than eight days, even after the governor is the reason those ballots didn’t make it out there?

Are you getting this, Pennsylvania people?

Are you paying attention?

John Pippy and others have gone back to court as of this evening, filing another lawsuit in an effort to get the ballot deadline extended to a more reasonable thirty day deadline. As I have with the story itself, I’ll keep you posted as soon as I hear any new developments.

By the way, I wonder where the ACLU is on this one? I mean, you would think such blatant disenfranchisement would be sure fodder for them. Of course, it’s a Democrat doing it, so you won’t hear a peep.

If you live in Pennsylvania or even if you don’t, voice your displeasure. Contact Governor Rendell’s office at the following number:

(717) 787-2500

Let him know how much bullshit you think this is and that you’re not going to tolerate him selectively accepting votes to give his friend a win in the election and secure a spot in his cabinet.
