And the liberals in the United States rejoiced because they could hang this over the President’s head and revive Chris Reeve from the dead and say “Look folks! Chris Reeve might’ve walked again if Bush wasn’t against stem cell research!”
Forgetting entirely that liberals have a dirty little habit when discussing stem cell research of lumping embryonic and adult cells together, they would completely miss that the stem cells that supposedly got this woman walking again did not in fact come from an aborted fetus, but instead came from the blood cells of an umbilical cord.
Imagine that. Yet again the most progressive research on stem cells have come from stem cells that are not embryonic.
Let’s also forget that the existing lines that were already created are having research conducted on them. Let’s forget also that this President is the first to fund stem cell research in any form (and no, the idea of stem cells was not discovered in 2000). Let’s also forget that embryonic stem cells have not produced any significant scientific gains as compared to adult stem cells.
In fact, in order to turn this case into any kind of political looksy to bash the President or us evil heartless conservatives who let Chris Reeve die, you’d have to forget a whole lot of stuff.
Doesn’t mean it won’t happen, though.
