Buy Nothing Day not catching on real well

It may take quite some time to catch on.

A group of activists calling themselves “culture jammers” are pushing “Buy Nothing Day,” even as shoppers stampede stores and malls.

Their protests in Portland, Oregon, didn’t even make a dent in the local shopping frenzy.

“Buy Nothing Day” has actually been around since 1992.

One couple that accepted “No Shopping Day” pamphlets left a mall with just cups of coffee as they waved to the protesters.

Stores all over Portland were packed. Shoppers crowded into Powell’s City of Books, one of the nation’s largest independent bookstore, which houses over a million volumes.

The National Retail Federation estimates that up to 130 million consumers — or roughly 44 percent of Americans — will go shopping over Thanksgiving weekend.

Buy Nothing Day: Rousing success… Especially considering this weekend was probably going to set records for shopping.

What’s that you say? The Holiday season may not match up to last year? Well that may very well be true, but we’re talking about the success (or lack thereof) of “Buy Nothing Day.” Try harder guys, there’s always next year.
