If I Made This Up, You’d Laugh At Me

CARLISLE [pa - ed.]- A pregnant Newville-area woman charged with murdering her 3-year-old son is asking to be freed from jail because her imprisonment constitutes “cruel and unusual punishment” for her unborn child.

Defense attorney Karl Rominger claims Candice Staruh, 22, who is to give birth in April, should be released from Cumberland County Prison and placed under house arrest pending her trial for first-degree murder.

“Common sense tells you a prison is not the best place, or the safest place, to carry a baby to term,” Rominger said yesterday.

What more is there to say here? I’ve said it on here numerous times; we are an overlawyered lot. Appropriately, that’s exactly where I found this article; overlawyered.com.

What a brilliant idea for a site. So much ready-made material on a daily basis!

So she allegedly killed the 3 year old and is now worried about the unborn child? She’s right, it isn’t a good place for the child. Too many eyes on her to make she she doesn’t do anything.

We are way overlawyered. It is a shame though for the lawyers that don’t conduct themselves like this.

That is just crazy! First I’m outraged that she “allegedly” killed her 3 year old. Next I can’t help but to laugh at her obvious ploy to get out of prison using her unborn as an excuse. Then to think someone would actually let her go home! I can understand prison not being an ideal place for an unborn infant. I’d be terrified to be pregnant in prison. But send her to a mental ward or some place where she will be watched! Don’t send her HOME for crying out loud where she might actually give birth and kill the next child. Our system sux.

Oh the can of worms I could open with this story – hello? unborn babies’ rights? I thought they had none, hence why abortion is legal in this country. So it’s not cruel and unusual punishment to rip it to pieces out of it’s womb prematurely but it is to horrendous for it to live in the safety of the womb of it’s mother who happens to be in prison?

(Just for the record, any one who knows me knows that I am completely against abortion.)
