I have a feeling that this particular german’s past is going to come back and haunt him, especially in light of what Pope Paul II did for Jewkind.

Oh? And what past is that?

  • Peter

I believe this is referring to the time Ratzinger spent in a junior Hitler youth group when he was fourteen. However, trying use this to paint the new pope in a negative light is pretty weak, all youth at the time were forced into these camps whether they wanted to go or not, if anything, it would give hime more insight into just how bad fanatical governments can get when left to their own devices.

    Thank you Peter.

I was actually kind of hoping he’d bring that up and then try to make a big deal out of it. I’m glad level heads are prevailing over this “scandal.”

I did see a news show last night that referred to Ratzinger’s “Hitler youth membership” and it didn’t explain that it was at that time compulsory for all German youth. I’ll be honest, there are a number of things that worry me about the Pope, but that’s not one of them. His statements about other churches being “deficient” was shocking, but I noticed from today’s headlines that he does seem to be reaching out to other denominations and taking a more ecumenical position. I know in the past he has worked for just that, particularly in trying to heal the rift with the Lutheran Church.
