The ACLU is going to be the death of this country. Mark my words.
“No matter how few people it affects, it’s an important bill on the principles,” said Frist, a Tennessee Republican and doctor who is considering seeking his party’s presidential nomination in 2008.
Abortion rights advocates say the bill would cut off an escape route for pregnant girls and make criminals of the relatives, friends and doctors who try to help them.
“It certainly reflects a lack of compassion toward teens and in particular to their health,” said Louise Melling of the American Civil Liberties Union. “It reflects a willingness of Congress to override or trump states’ policy decisions.”
You know. Maybe I’m just so jaded that I don’t see the good the ACLU is trying to accomplish.
They want to protect the rights of adults to shuttle kids across state lines to have abortions in other states to avoid telling their parents about the medical treatment they’re about to have, and think this is somehow good for teenaged girls.
I just don’t get it. Aren’t the ACLU one of the groups worried about back-alley abortions, a phrase that comes up everytime someone dares to even hint of making killing your baby a little tougher? How much more back-alley does it get than sneaking off to another state without your parents’ knowledge to have a medical procedure?
It’s sad.
