It would take a miracle…

“I would like to think a miracle would happen and we would pick up five seats this time,” he said during a floor debate over the filibusters of President Bush’s judicial nominees. “I guess miracles never cease.”

It would take a miracle. There is no Democrat agenda, just an anti-Republican agenda. In order to win the elections and the seats you so desire, you must have a plan that involves more than being “not Republican.” That may work on the Moveon.org folks, but at some point the Democratic Party, is going to have to stand for something other than standing for “whatever the Republicans don’t stand for.”

9 years of election losses have taught these folks nothing, and the fact that Reid sees it as only through miraculous intervention that they can pick up Senate seats is telling that they’re a party adrift with no plan and no agenda.

Guess even Senator Reid can get something right once in awhile.

  • They would probably take credit for it, or something like that.

Do you think most Democrates would recognize a miracle, if it did happen?

Good point. I've been saying this same thing a lot lately. The current political climate is made up of Republicans and anti-Republicans. Democrats keep wondering why they are losing public support, and what they don't realize is that the Republicans are doing a masterful job of stealing Democrats from the party. How the Republicans managed to fool working-class Joe Sixpack into believing that they give a crap about him I'll never know, but they did. The "working man" was historically the backbone of the Democratic party, but they're leaving in droves. Women used to be more likely to vote Democratic, but that has changed as well.

As nauseated as I am by the current Republican agenda (e.g., self-imposed "moral" authority, war mongering, irresponsible environmental policy, abandonment of their traditional stances on states' rights and small federal government), they are winning because they have a clear agenda. 1994 was a turning point for a party in trouble and they turned it around. Democrats should learn from the strategies behind the "Contract With America" and get their act together.
