Man dies after
hit by trainA Manhattan was killed yesterday when he stuck his head in front of a subway car as it pulled into the 96th St. station, police said.
Seven subway cars had already passed Eddie Borges, 39, before he walked toward the edge of the platform and apparently thrust his head toward a southbound No. 1 train around 3:50 p.m., cops said.
Borges was knocked backward and rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
A life-long New Yorker, Borges lived with his mom in Morningside Heights and usually opted for taxis, said his sister, Maria Bautista, 51, of the Bronx.
“I don’t know what made him take the train today because he always takes cabs – always,” she said.
Borges struggled with a mental illness and did not work, relatives said.
“I was surprised,” Bautista said. “I wonder what went through his mind.”
God forgive me for that one…
