Thanks for your concern about how I practice my religion and your snap judgments. Both of them are touching.

Really.

With every passing comment you prove only one thing; you know nothing about me.

Despite all your beautiful poetic writing ( ) none of that is religion, it's observance of God's works. You don't pay homage to God by watching a tree and call yourself a Catholic. Maybe some other strange religion worships gods of wind and grass, but not mine.

You obviously know nothing about the teachings of Christ as it pertains to my religion.

If you want to preach, I suggest you go over to Blogger and grow some stones and start a blog. I reckon the only reason you hang around here is because you have so little to say that you couldn't possibly spend more than twenty minutes writing every thought you have.

God Bless.

Vinny is what I call a "typical northern catholic"

Doesn't take communion for 15 years, but alas, after that long of a time, he walks out of his Church awash in the glow of Mother Mary and all of a sudden is holier-than-thou and speaks directly for the Holy Trinity.

Hypocrisy at its finest.

Patrick - you do not need organized religion to have a relationship with God. You do not need Priests, rabbi's or mullah's telling you what God wants you to know. Religion is nothing more than man made structutes and institutions, while some intentions are good, that are obstacles in the way of what God wants us to know.
Read the bible merely as a historical document. Both old and new testament. Understand that the very core of what Jesus was telling us, was to get away from the fundamental teachings of the institutions. That we do not need grand structures, formal tradtions and motions, or "holy men" telling us what God wants us to know. The word of God is not written in any book or spoken in any human tounge. THIS is what Jesus, God in the flesh, was trying to tell us.
Go outside, look into the sky, sit in a forest or by the rolling ocean. Listen to the song of the birds or the laughter of children playing. Lay on a grassy hill and let the breeze bush by your ears. See a mother bird feed her chicks in a nest. Watch a fish swim beneath the clear lake water. Maybe somewhere in all of this, you will hear what God wants you to know. Hug your child and tell him or her how much you love them. Teach them to be decent human beings and good stewards to the world. Oppose all war and damage to the environment. In that you will be doing God's true work on Earth. Tell God "thank you for letting me have another day on this planet with my family, friends, co-workers" Do this every day.
Reading a few passages out of a book, eating bread and drinking wine and telling some Priest how bad you;ve been once a week or once every so often, while good intentioned, is NOT the teachings of Christ. They are merely teaching of some old men who sit in silk red robes in grand structures.

Good luck in finding the Truth.

No one who follows my "rants" here calls me a hypocrite. Sorry bro. For a newcomer you have a big mouth and very little behind it.

As for your cave remark, like pretty much everything else you write, it warrants no response.

And thankfully you won't be around for a week. Trust me. Nobody is going to miss you here. Go spread your liberal propaganda elsewhere. And next time, hang around before you make a comment because so far every comment you've made has done nothing but prove the ignorance of the one making it.

Patrick, if you want advice on what Catholicism is, I suggest checking out Catholic.com. Catholicism is what it is. The site that Barefoot Paul (or whatever name he chooses to use this week) suggested has little to do with the Catholic Church and much to do with liberalizing it. If you aren't down with the Catholic Church, and its doctrines, I might suggest you try something a little more liberal (like the Episcopaleans) or something completely different like the United Church (or whatever it's called). One thing you'll learn about the Catholic Church: It doesn't mould to fit you, you have to change to fit it.

Honestly, in order for a religion to maintain any credibility, that's the only way it should be.

Hopefully you'll find something that suits your needs. If you want any help looking, I'd be happy to help you out if you choose to go the Catholic route.

You say I mischaracterize you (with nothing factual to back it up) and at the same time say I'm a '“pretend Catholic” who thinks gays should be priests' even though you've never heard me say anything about gays or the priesthood? Do you have any clue why others here (who apparently have followed your rants much longer than I) call you a hypocrite?

Why am I not surprised you don't know any liberal Catholics? Maybe you should try crawling out of your cave sometime.

I won't be able to respond to any more of your lies about me for a week or so while I'm away from my computer, so feel free to fire away and demonstrate more of that famous ignorance.

Oh, and the National Catholic Reporter?

Good one.

There isn't a Catholic I know of who takes that liberal rag seriously.

But if it makes you feel better to be a "pretend Catholic" who thinks gays should be priests, and always has articles contrary to vatican teaching. Hard to call yourself a catholic in those circumstances.

If you wanna start your own religion fine, but don't read that and assume it's Catholicism. It's about as catholic as a yarmulke.

Radical fundamentalist!?!

HAHAHAHAHAH

You're right. You are new to this blog stuff because in three days you've managed to completely mischaracterize me.

Well done.

(Think about it for a second... Would Patrick hang around if I were?)

Patrick,
You wouldn't know it from reading Vinny's stuff, but you don't have to be a radical fundamentalist to be Catholic. See http://www.natcath.org/ for the more sensible side of Catholicism.
We welcome you wherever you are on your journey,
Paul (previously posting here as Minneapolis Paul - new to this blog business)

thanks for the advice-

I'm still "in the market" for a belief structure religion that suits me. Maybe none of them do...?

I'll look into those sects of Christianity. My Catholic buddies are going to take me to mass with them in a few weeks. We'll see how it goes...

My advice would be to take a look at all of the various subsects of Christianity out there... There are quite a few that are remarkably liberal, and then there are quite a few that are staunchly conservative. I tend towards the middle-of-the-road branches (Presbyterians, Lutherans, Anglican Catholics (not to be confused with the Church of England), etc.), but the odds are quite good that there is a Christian church out there somewhere where you would feel comfortable.
