What happened to real “diversity?”

The Islander Democrats have accused the College Republicans of violating a university policy stating that groups receiving university funds can’t exclude members based on gender, ethnic or religious background, sexual orientation or disability, said Eliot Chenaux, vice president of student affairs.

Chenaux said he thinks the allegations are the result of miscommunication involving a flier and a petition.

The accusations surfaced after a flier titled “Flaming Heterosexual?” featuring a flame with legs holding a wooden stick was circulated at the University Center during the National Day of Silence on April 13. The National Day of Silence is a day supporting gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals.

The Islander Cultural Alliance, a student organization promoting inclusiveness, the Islander Democrats and the College Republicans had tables set up at the event.

The Islander Democrats allege the College Republicans circulated the fliers, Chenaux said. The Democratic organization also was under the impression that the Republican group was excluding gay students, which is a violation of university policy, he said.

The Republican group was not signing up members, Chenaux said, but rather was asking people to sign a petition celebrating heterosexuality. The Republican group has told the Student Affairs Office they had a right to celebrate heterosexuality if other campus organizations were allowed to celebrate alternative lifestyles, Chenaux said.

Conservatives have often asked what would happen if there were white tv channels, white magazines, and white schools. The idea being, of course, that it could never happen but black variations on those same institutions not only exist, but are encouraged.

Well, now we see the exact same thing when discussing who you have sex with. Apparently you can celebrate any of the LGBT sexual denominations (for lack of a better word) but if you’re hetero, you can’t celebrate that because you’re a bigot.

Amazing how much hypocrisy can come out of one group of mouths.

I’m not surprised that you’re offended by it.

    Anything to be contrarian.

Somehow, it would figure that a heterosexually-celebrating event would get canned, and somehow it would figure that Sirrous does not have a clue in the world.

Go go gadget discrimination/supression of free speech/favoritism/PC-ism/(insert other such idiotic concepts here).

I understand what he is saying. The only reason these people choose to have a “heterosecual pride” day or whatever it is, is to mock the others.
Sure, it is free speech, but it doesn’t make it proper.

(now lets see you tell me the same mantra of free speechism applies to those protesting war right outside a military base). Can’t have it both ways, assholes.

Got nothing against it. Peoplare more than free to express their opinions howver they see fit (and assuming they follow the appropriate rules, regulations, and laws for hodling a peacful demonstration in whatever city they decide to do it). Now, if they decide to be obnoxiously … active, shall we say… in their protestations… then they deserve whatever attentions they get.
