The mainstream media morons are at it again. This time, they’re busy enforcing a stereotype of their own creation; the “christians hate fags” one.
The AP has a story circulating on many outlets today about the Reverend bigot Fred Phelps and his unbelievably tasteless actions at funerals of fallen soldiers. Check it out:
Church: God Punishing GIs Over Gays

The church members were met with scorn from local residents. They chased the church members cars’ down a highway, waving flags and screaming “God bless America.”
“My husband is over there, so I’m here to show my support,” 41-year-old Connie Ditmore said as she waved and American flag and as tears came to her eyes. “To do this at a funeral is disrespectful of a family, no matter what your beliefs are.”
Phelps is a bastard. What he’s doing is horrible. What his gaggle of mindless followers is doing is repugnant. But now that we’ve gotten all that fun stuff out of the way, we are presented information in the story that warrants further examination:
The Rev. Fred Phelps, founder of Westboro Baptist in Kansas, contends that American soldiers are being killed in Iraq as vengeance from God for protecting a country that harbors gays. The church, which is not affiliated with a larger denomination, is made up mostly of Phelps’ children, grandchildren and in-laws.
Got that? The church is mostly his family. In other words, it’s a small fringe church with a membership consisting of a bunch of inbred bigots. By the AP’s own admission, it’s not affiliated with any major church throughout the country and it’s relatively small.
So why all the attention?
Why the screaming headline on Yahoo and hundreds of other websites today?
Couldn’t be because they could use this small unaffiliated church loaded with bigotry and hatred as a re-enforcement of how backward and hateful those red-staters are, could it? I mean, the AP would never stoop that low, would they?
