Now that the idiotic pullout is over, we can start the realization that it didn’t do anything because Israel still exists.
JERUSALEM, Aug. 28 – A Palestinian man carrying explosives blew himself up during rush hour in Beersheba today, the first act of suicidal terrorism since Israel pulled its settlers out of the Gaza Strip. Hours later, however, the Israeli cabinet voted overwhelmingly to allow Egypt to patrol the international border with Gaza with 750 armed men, which would allow Israel to pull all its soldiers out of Gaza in the next month.
The Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, condemned the bombing, which critically wounded two security guards at the Beersheba bus station and hurt another 46 people, as “a terrorist attack” in a statement issued by the official Palestinian news agency, WAFA.
An alert bus driver was suspicious of the man, who asked for directions in a dirt parking lot 100 yards from the Beersheba bus station. He directed the bomber to another bus and called security guards, who chased the man and asked him for documents. The man then set off his bomb, but not in a crowded area.
Israeli officials condemned the bombing as “a wake-up call that brings us back to the reality of terrorism after the euphoria of the Gaza disengagement,” said Raanan Gissin, an aide to prime minister Ariel Sharon.
The reality is that pulling out of Gaza is a defeat for Israel that will do nothing to secure peace. Not a blessed thing. Israel pulling out of Gaza will do nothing to make the world more secure, Israel safer, or end islamic fundamentalist terrorism. In fact, it gives them the idea, and correctly so, that bombing buses, discotheques, and pizzerias are punished by giving the government that fails to rein them in more land.
What a lesson to learn.
