Stupid Environmental Murderers

Posted at 9:51 am under Interesting

Boulders tumbling down an antarctic slope left tracks that weren’t there two years ago. New impact craters formed since the 1970s suggest changes to age-estimating models. And for three arctic summers in a row, deposits of frozen carbon dioxide near Earth’s south pole have shrunk from the previous year’s size, suggesting a climate change in progress.

Unbelievable. How much more evidence are we gonna need that we’re destroying our planet? I think it’s high time we stop ignoring the obvious.

Oh wait. It ain’t earth.

It’s Mars.

While I don’t doubt the whole global-warming theory is actually happening, I do tend to wonder how much of it is actually human-related.

    It’s borderline criminal.

    Ounce of prevention, you know?

  2. Dave Says:

I wonder if someone will try to blame the president for this as well.

  3. stageleft Says:

Does it really matter how much of it is human related if the part that is causes no end of damage, human suffering, and misery?

I’ve really given up on the human race, at this point and am quite willing to bet that when the waters in NY harbour begin to rise people will be slogging down Atlantic Avenue in their rubber boots either muttering, “it’s part of a regular cycle, we had nothing to do with it, 10 thousand years ago Ugh and his tribe walked this very street in their rubber boots as well” or “these boots and the water they are sloshing through are all liberal lies designed to result in the downfall of capatilism”

Well, it does draw into question the idea that the climate is something can we even control… I mean, if we didn’t cause the problem, how can we do anything to stop it?

Doesn’t mean we stop trying, but it’s a question that should be addressed.

  5. Dave D Says:

God forbid we should question the established doctrine that human effort causes global warming. Speak truth to power, baby.

I need some sort of way to insert huge sighs into responses to things like this.

    (1) There is little doubt within the scientific community that climate change is occuring;

    (2) That climate change includes a significant enough increase in overall global temperatures to have a number of negative impacts on the human species;

    (3) There is considerable evidence that human activity has either (a) accelerated, or (b) magnified, these changes to a detectable degree;

    (4) We cannot control the weather, we can control, at least to some degree, our impact as a species on an environment that does dictate the weather.

I know no person who is even remotely interested in discussing this in a reasonable fashion who says that humans cause global warming David - and your effort to try and say that is the base that people like me operate from is a really poor try, as a matter of fact it’s as poor a try as I have ever seen, it’s a try worthy of (Right)WingNuts like Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh…. I’m even pretty sure that one of them might have originally said just those words.

From (Right)WingNut mouth to the ears of one who can’t think much further than what ever frequency they’re listening to on the AM dial you could say.

Then again you might be able to come up with a reputable scientific source that attempts to state that humans are the cause of climate change and global warming and prove me wrong - please don’t take it the wrong way when you discover I’m not holding my breath until that happens though.

Did Stagelepper actually make a point?

  8. Vinny Says:

So if humans can’t cause global warming (as you claim most environmentalists believe, although I’m more than happy to call Bravo Sierra for the entire group on that one), how can they reverse its effects?

If we aren’t strong enough to cause the damage, how are we strong enough to reverse it?

  9. stageleft Says:

What’s with the continued use of the word cause? (Remember that sigh I mentioned earlier?)

People seeking to make the “human beings have a hand in this” argument look stupid, unreasonable, and/or over reactive use the word cause, people who discuss the situation realistically use the word contribute, because that’s what it is; the human species is contributing to climate change, and therefor global warming, by causing damage to our environment… and our environment plays a very significant role in driving climate change.

We cannot prevent climate change, and associated global warming, we can seek to mitigate our impact on the environment and reduce the negative impacts it will have on us as a species.

At the risk of raising some blood pressure, those who don’t happen to believe that we as a species have anything to do with this, or believe that it’s all part of some divine plan, are simply on the opposite end of the “it’s all our fault and we’re gonna die” pole, and, IMO, are just as unrealistic and unreasonable.

  10. stageleft Says:

Ooops, almost forgot…. I never claimed that most environmentalists believe anything, some of them are just as nutty as people like the WingNuts who tell us about some sort of divine plan that this is obviously a part of.

    I did say

I know no person who is even remotely interested in discussing this in a reasonable fashion who says that humans cause global warming

  11. S.D. Says:

    Nice Lead in!

Larry Niven (Among others) discussed that the biggest by product of civilization is heat. Even if we do affect the Climate, I wonder how much can we Repair it?

  12. Vinny Says:

Well, that’s my point also, but it seems like every time I ask that question, I get dragged into a flamewar.

  13. S.D. Says:

    Know what you mean.

People treat certain topics like it’s Religion when in fact it’s not. Me, I think Global warming is real, but certainly won’t get into an Argument about it.

Actually, I find it convenient when people start flaming or getting worked up on a topic: I make a mental note NOT to bother discussing it with them in the future as it’s to much of a headache.

  14. Dave Says:

Scientists at the Max Plank Institute have determined that the sun has been giving off increasing heat that hasn’t been experienced in about 1000 years.

  15. Bill Gates Says:

Global warming? There is certainly something happening at the poles but so is the same effect occurring on Mars (most noticeably) and the other planets. Let’s see, where could all that heat be coming from?
    a) increased electrocutions for capitol offences
    b) Bill Clintons cigars
    c) Viagra
    d) Gazillions of tons of protons (positive) being absorbed at the poles
(negitive) from our suns hyper active sunspot and massive solar flare
    activity

Yes folks the ice is melting and raising sea levels will swamp the coastal cities of the world. This reminds me of the time when I forgot where I put my glass of iced tea. When I found it later, it was undrinkable. Not because the melted ice watered down the drink, nor because it was too warm to taste like iced tea. No, neither of these. It was because all the ice in the glass had melted flooding my home so badly that all my rugs and furniture were simply ruined and I had to evacuate by boat. From now on it’s hot coca for me, especially on some globally warm stifling day.
Today they’re predicting the high temperature may reach 92, breaking the old record. Man that’s global warming. But wait, the old record was set in 1961, that’s 44 years ago. What happened to all those globally warm temperatures since then? Shouldn’t we only have to go back to when it started to warm up, maybe 2-3 years ago or 5 or even 10? Why were temps so cool that we have to go back to 1961 to find a record high? Global warming?
Besides, I’m all for global warming. It would mean a longer golf season and northern states might have a little longer growing season. Heating oil, as expensive as it is, could be saved a little if winters were a bit warmer. Whoops, wait a minute. Winters have been colder. Last winter we had 18 days in a row that temps dropped below zero. The year before 27 days. It used to be that 20 years could go by before we had even one night when the temp dropped below zero. So isn’t it getting cooler or at least averaging out? Nope. A colder winter, I’m told, is caused by global warming.
So let me get this straight. Cooler makes it warmer, when it’s warmer it’s is because it’s cooler, OJ and Michael Jackson are innocent,
Hillary is moving to the right, Bill never lied, Moslems are peace loving, the boy scouts need more girls, gays should be married, the feds were late and liberals will save the world.
    Got it. -bg

  16. Chet Says:

It’s funny how most of the people harping that the U.S. doesn’t do enough to curb “global warming” happen to be the same ones who seem to feel threatened by America’s economic prosperity and military might - all the while enjoying the milk and honey America generously offers them with the same prosperity and might.

Not sure if it’s haha funny or just odd funny. Maybe both. :???:
