First fatality as French rioting worsens

GRIGNY, France - Rioters shot at police and torched more than 1,400 cars in the worst violence since unrest erupted in France’s poor suburbs 11 days ago, and a man beaten by a youth became the first fatality on Monday. The rioters threw firebombs at two churches and attacked three schools on Sunday night, police said, hours after President Jacques Chirac vowed to defeat the troublemakers.

Oh yeah, they’re just rioters. Not muslim rioters. Oh no, we wouldn’t want to call them muslims. Also, notice the huge outpouring of consternation from the muslim world.

    How’s this for a start:

    In an effort to stop the attacks and distance them from Islam, France’s most influential Islamic group issued a religious edict, or fatwa, condemning the violence.

    The quote’s on page two.

    Of course it’s on page two. Not on page one in the 15000000000 word story that talks about the violence.

    For something this major, it sure is getting short shrift.

    I really couldn’t tell if that was sarcasm or not. Are you saying that the media is simultaneously not indicating that the rioters are Muslims and not giving Muslims enough credit for calling for an end to the violence. Or, are you saying that they buried it on page two because it does show that most of the protesters are Muslim.

    Jeff… It’s actually quite simple.

    1. They aren’t reporting that the people committing the acts are muslim. That’s not opinion, that’s a fact. Twenty minutes ago, an AP article went up talking about renewed violence and the word muslim did not appear once in the whole piece.

    2. Muslims aren’t responding negatively en masse to the events in France. One quote of this length:

    In an effort to stop the attacks and distance them from Islam, France’s most influential Islamic group issued a religious edict, or fatwa, condemning the violence.

    “It is formally forbidden for any Muslim seeking divine grace and satisfaction to participate in any action that blindly hits private or public property or could constitute an attack on someone’s life,” the fatwa said, citing the Koran and the teachings of Muhammad.

    Is not condemnation that matches the magnitude of the actions. Muslims are destroying France and the most the guy can say is it’ll screw up their chances of getting their 72 virgins!?

    Give me a damned break. The left and the media is willfully ignoring the fact that muslims are behind this. In fact, there were more mentions of Jews in the article you cited than muslims.

    I’d say that speaks volumes.
