Thanks Jim, but we already knew that…

Nintendo Wins Handheld Gaming Market

When it comes to handheld gaming, the story is much different. Sony’s overpriced PSP continues to lag, as a steady stream of warmed-over PS2 games port over. Nintendo, using a double-barreled attack that features the fashionable Gameboy Micro and the quirky but innovative DS, will continue to win over the market. Riding a wave of great content, including Mario & Luigi, Mario Kart DS, and Animal Crossing, Nintendo will remain on top as 2006 comes to a close.

The PSP is a major disappointment in so many ways. I’m sure Sony never expected to be getting its ass handed to it by an upgraded Gameboy. The difference between the DS and the PSP?

Games dude. Games games games.

Nintendo has ‘em, Sony isn’t even close. I’d say this prediction is a no-brainer.

Destiny just got the new Gameboy Advance, silver colored, for Christmas, along with another game. She loves it. Cyndi already had one. (it’s the model that folds closed. Can’t remember what it’s called.) I had already told them I wasn’t paying out the money for the handheld PS that was a POS. We do have a PS2 that we love and Gary and CJ play on it all the time. I only play on it when I”m playing Tetris or Soul Calibur (my fave fighting game – I’ll kick your butt on that one!!!).

Having not played with any manner of handheld since the original GameBoy, I cannot honestly comment on the topic. However, just from the games and the style of the platforms, I, personally, would bend towards the PSP. That may have something to do with my not having a PS2 already, and thus not having access to those warmed-over games, but it also has a fair amount to do with me not liking effectively any Nintendo games besides the original Mario Brothers series, SSMBM, and the Metroid series. The rest are entertaining, but, to me, not worth buying a platform for. :)

I bought my son a Nintendo DS this year, and he already has a gameboy advance, but he wanted the DS because of the games. When given a choice between DS and PSP, he chose the DS. He wanted an XBox 360 of course, but that wasn’t one of the choices, LOL.

The Nintendogs game for DS is actually pretty cool.

The DS is one of the best gaming related purchases I’ve ever made. I decided when the PSP came out that it would either be the PSP and DS or the DS alone. I just wasn’t, for some reason, buying into the hype of the PSP.

In many ways, I think I made the right decision in the long run because there are a lot of “lukewarm” happy people with their PSP’s.

My nephew got a DS for Christmas. His birthday is coming up soon, and we decided to buy him a game. He already has Mario Kart, and apparently he’s not all that into nurturing virtual pets, so I picked up Advance Wars: Dual Strike. From what I’ve seen, the DS might be a good addition to my birthday list, replacing my years-old Gameboy Advance.
