Kathy Griffin, who I happen to think has moments of utter hystericalness, really planted her stupid-assed foot deep within her mouth, causing Terry Moran, a fine and balanced impartial and unbiased journalist, cause to swoon.
Griffin, in an interview charged that conservative celebrities (how many of those do you know?) are avoiding Iraq while liberal celebs (how many of those do you know) are heading over to Iraq in droves to entertain troops.
That’s all well and good, but here’s a flash for Ms. Griffin. She’s a comedian.
Now, you’re probably wondering why I bring that up. There is, actually, a reason.
Griffin brings up Mel Gibson, Rush Limbaugh, and Bruce Willis as celebrities who are absent from Iraq.
Think about that.
Kathy Griffin makes a living standing on stage in front of others and performing her “shtick.” Stand up comedians are a different breed. So are singers, rappers, and others. But to wonder where Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis are, to me, seems a bit silly. Frankly, how entertaining would that be? Neither of them are stage performers. There have been plenty of “conservative” stars in Iraq. Collin Quinn headlined a tour of comedians around Iraq and Afghanistan, and even performed at Abu Ghraib and in Falloujah.
My point is that Griffin’s comparison is invalid. She is in a different line of work than the people she’s criticizing, completely irrespective of the utter scarcity of conservative celebrities in Hollywood to begin with.
