A Good Question Not Ever Sufficiently Answered
From Walls of the City:
I know there are moderate Muslims. Believe me, I do. And I am relatively certain that they outnumber the radical sects of that misguided religion. But, for God’s sake, why are they not doing something to stop this? Silence is tacit agreement, and from my narrow, American, imperialistic, racist, bigoted, infidel point of view (and, yes, again, I am being somewhat sarcastic), I am hearing all manner of silence from the moderate Muslims… an occasional peep here or there, but where is the hue and cry? Where are the religious leaders calling for a cease of hostilities? Where are the average people doing the same?
There are moderate Muslims. The problem isn’t their existence, it’s their silence.
I’ve caught shit on this very site on numerous occasions as I begged and pleaded for the moderate muslims to open their mouth, and have been confronted with obscure examples of one muslim cleric speaking to a television camera saying violence against the zionist sympathizing infidels is a bad thing. One of the more unintentionally funny responses to the rampaging animals that are firebombing embassies came from CAIR:
“Everyone has the right to peacefully protest defamatory attacks on their religious figures, but protesters should not reinforce existing stereotypes by resorting to violence or inflammatory rhetoric,” CAIR Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper.
Wow, does that put it in perspective, or what?
I hadn’t actually thought of that, but it’s a great point. In reacting to the portrayal of Mohammed as the father of a bloodlusting religion, the response has been bloodlusting and violent.
I’d say that demonstrates a distinct problem within the “community,” wouldn’t you?
The impression that’s been created lately (and not through some amazing manipulation, but instead through the very actions of muslims ’round the world) has been that Muslims are waiting for something to be outraged at so they can explode upon the infidels. Remember the story of the drop of urine that went through an entire air conditioning system and landed on a Koran two floors down? Or the time a Koran fell? Remember those reactions?
It’s hard to believe that a religion so loaded with peaceful people can react this way every single time something happens. Then again, it’s not that hard to believe when the average muslim, while possibly disagreeing with the actions, is quietly sitting by and saying nothing. If this were such a small majority that felt this way, surely billions of muslims could stop it.
Surely they could.
They just choose not to.
