Engadget Mourns Loss of iPod “Competitor”

Posted at 1:46 pm under Silly

On Dell not producing any more Dell DJ hard disk based MP3 players.

Can’t says as we’re surprised, but we’re still always disappointed to see another iPod competitor drop off the map.

Competitor? Whatever dude.

I’ve seen a random spattering of Dell DJ’s on the subway, but how many people can say they’ve seen the old players in person at all? If Dell had every single MP3 player on the market that wasn’t an iPod, they’d have a 17% market share. Since we know they don’t and didn’t, can we seriously even call the DJ a competitor?

Of course we can, the same we consider Mozilla Firefox to be a competitor to Microsoft Internet Explorer, or Apple to be a competitor to Microsoft.
