Fixing a Flickr Oversight

Flickr, for whatever reason, does not give its users the option of having new comments e-mailed to the poster. I have no idea why Flickr left that out of the featureset, but they did. A couple of clever users have come up with a great workaround, and I’ve tried it and can verify that it not only works, but works really well.

Step 1: Grab the feed URL from your Recent Activity section in Flickr. It’s probably something like this:

http://www.flickr.com/recent_comments_feed.gne?id=49167054@N00&format=rss_200 (That’s mine, people)

where 2 is the number of days you want to go back. You can leave this at its default setting.

Step 2: Head over to RSSFwd.com. Put the URL from Step 1 into the box on the front page.

Step 3: Enter the e-mail address to send it to, follow the verification steps, and you’re done.

New comments should make it to you within an hour of their being posted on your Flickr photostream, but at least you’ll know when there are new comments posted.

Thanks to Lifehacker for the idea.
