Nice Job, THQ
I’ve had a PSP for a few weeks at a time, and it’s a fun little system. The load times, however, suck. Apparently THQ has taken that sucktitude to a whole new level of suckiness.
The video below is long, but you’ll feel this guy’s pain:
Now, I have never had loadtimes that even come close to this, however, as Joystiq notes, someone at THQ and Sony thought these unbelievably bad load times were acceptable in a final product.
Yet another “benefit” of a cd-based system.

The PSP is a great example of a system that should have taken the world by storm, but was doomed by piss-poor execution. The funny thing is that the pre-release buzz for the PSP was so positive in the US and Japan. Everyone wanted to love it, but the suckitude of what Sony put out there got out fast.
Nintendo, on the other hand… I’ve been resisting buying a DS (I already have a GBA SP), but now that I’ve seen the DS Lite, and with the news that they’re going to ship Opera on a cart and will be releasing more of the quirky Japanese titles like “Brain Training” here in the States… I think I’m on board.

The problem with the PSP is twofold.
1. The launch lineup sucked. There’s no disputing this whatsoever. There were few good games at launch, and very few thereafter. In fact, people who bought the system are still wondering when a game or two they’ll want to play is going to come out.
2. There’s very little innovation in the games themselves. They’re all scaled down warmed over PS2 and PS1 games. That really isn’t going to fly any more. Sure you can play video, mp3’s, and all that other neat stuff, but people aren’t buying it for that, they’re buying it for games.
When the most popular games on your system are emulators that play 8 bit Nintendo games and old arcade games, that speaks volumes.
