I found just found this homebrew audacity library custom made for intel macs on the web:

despite some minor flaws audacity runs like hell on my machine!

I really haven’t had any kind of issues with my Blackbook yet, and I’m kinda hoping I don’t. I spend most of my time talking smack around the office about how great the Mac is, and frankly a simple little thing like this not working would be highly embarassing.

I wrote the post above on ForeverGeek, and it was basically a repost of a post on my personal site.

The problem doesn’t occur with Audacity only. I was actually having that problem using VLC. In fact, I haven’t run Audacity since switching to my MacBookPro.

Quick question, though: Being a recent switcher to Macbook Pro, my Audacity seems incompatible with OS X (Intel). Which version are you running. It drives me crazy;)
