Hateful Bigot Gets Hatemail
The hateful Christianbasher who created the Flying Spaghetti Monster as an insult to Christians and the absurdity of believing in God is out with a book of those hatemails. We’re all supposed to be offended, I guess, that he’s getting nasty hatemail after pimping that stupid thing specifically to rile up Christians.
Of course Boing Boing falls for it with nary a protest, but what did you expect?

Christianbasher???
Look, not everyone who disagrees with you is bashing you. I don’t know why some Christians have such a thin skin. Maybe all the centuries we had running the world have made us forget how to be humble.

If you don’t think the FSM is a direct attack on Christianity and those who practice it and their God, then your name probably should read Dick, not Richard.
Give me a damned break. I don’t mind criticism. Creating a fictional monster, calling it a god, and waving it in front of Christians with the sole attempt at antagonizing them is textbook bigotry.
There’s no issue of humility here at all. The guy’s a dick and you aren’t much better.

Ok, so if Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) is bigotry, then what is The Onion (”Jesus returns to the NBA”)? Are comedians people that slander other people? What is humor, anyway, if not to poke fun at people, culture, and things?
FSM pretty much exists to prove that we can believe anything we want to believe. After all, we live in a society where we enjoy freedom of speech and religion, right? I could say that you’re a bigot of the FSM.
By the way, here’s a clue: I am sure that book will be shelved in the HUMOR section of bookstores and libraries. The fact you’re antogonized by it makes you seem kind of insecure of your faith. The more nobel high-road thing for you to do is not even mention it–I never even heard about that book until I saw your post.

Wow. The flying spaghetti monster was created as a slap in the face to Christians. There’s no denying it.
Unfortunately for your roundabout and utterly pointless reference to the comedians and the Onion, we aren’t talking about them, are we?
We’re talking about the FSM.
I’m not antagonized by it, genius. Nor did I say I was. I did, however, find it ironic that an icon of intolerance and mockery (FSM) drew fire from Christians (the target of the mockery) and that’s some kind of interesting story.
Nowhere did I say it shouldn’t exist.
Nowhere did I say he should stop writing about it.
Nowhere did I say people don’t have the right to believe what they want.
That being said, I have every bit as much of a right to say what the hell I want about it, also.
You can’t give me (of all people; Jesus, man pay attention to the site, will you? I defend lots of speech I find reprehensible) a lecture on free speech and then tell me I should shut up.
We call that hypocrisy in this country.
Free speech isn’t just about the right to say what you want; it’s also about the right of others to respond to it.
Pay better attention to the posts, and before you start making character assumptions, read more posts. It’ll make your comments more informed and based on more than the reaction to one insignificant post.

I believe the FSM was a satirical response to the whole Intelligent Design (ID) effort to teach creationism in public schools.
Whether ID=Christianity, I have no idea… I guess it might be. I think proponents of ID were careful to keep it non-Christian to promote the “curriculum” to the school boards across the country.
I personally think the guy who devised FSM to be brilliant because it basically–through ridiculous parallelism–blew away the obfuscation of ID and revealed it to be nothing more than repackaged creationism.
I have, in fact, read several dozens of your posts–not just on your site here, but on other sites as well. You’re a very smart, articulate, and interesting person whose earned my respect I could care less whether I agree with you or not because I enjoy reading what you have to say.
However, the tone of your post, as well as your first reply to Richard, definitely suggests your no fan of the FSM (due to the fact you’re antagonized, angered, bothered, miffed, provoked, teased… whatever verb you want to pick).
Also, I’m not telling you to shut up. I’m just pointing out that sometimes when you post something that you think is bad, it might otherwise promote something good to someone who disagrees with you.
This is what happened to me when I read your post–I’m going to look for that book next time I’m at the book store.

Aaron,
I find it funny that in your first post you’re all fight, but when Vinny cuts you down a peg all of a sudden he’s someone who has earned your respect etc. Brown-noser much?
Just remember - His site. His blog. His posts. His thoughts. His RULES.
Oh, and as a side note - I don’t think it’s a good idea to go around accusing people of being insecure of their faith. It shows little class.

Halo: Does having respect for someone despite the fact you may disagree with them make that person a brown noser? Oh, you just wanted to insult me–I get it.
Based on his reply, I simply didn’t like the direction the discussion was taking so I steered it into a more positive direction.
Clearly we weren’t going to agree on the issue at hand. I’m sorry I disappointed you by not giving you the drama you wanted to read in my follow-up replies.
Don’t bother responding, dude… I’m done.
