Breathtaking

Saw the movie last Saturday. Had goosebumps the entire time. In the car on the way home the signif and I came to the conclusion that the “Me Decade” and consumerism of the 80s could not have come about had John Lennon been there to remind us that all we really need is love and respect for life- not more stuff and not more or perpetual war. I can only imagine how different the world would be if he were alive today.

The world would’ve been different if John Lennon lived?

Did I miss something in the US History books about John Lennon’s myriad of political achievements?

I don’t know what’s scarier. That someone actually said something so breathtakingly stupid, or that they actually believed it. After all, nothing bad happened while John Lennon was running around singing “She loves you yeah yeah yeah” and “Imagine.”

I’m still trying to figure out how John Lennon would’ve saved the world.

I’ll get back to you as soon as I lobotomize myself.

Yeah, come on now… I mean, I worship John Lennon as a musical genius and as a well intentioned person, but the ‘Me Decade’ and the consumerism of the 80′s came about specifically because of hippies and peace/love. It was more than just peace and love, it was all about rebellion. So everyone rebelled against their parents, smoked pot and sang songs (great songs) and protested. Did any of them try to really make a difference by getting into politics? The 60′s were all about doing what feels good… and eventually that has led us to the state of things as they are today. Sure, we’ve gotten rid of blatant sexism/racisim, but we’ve lost family and commitment. We’re only compassionate to our fellow man when it’s convenient. Puerile lawsuits, jejune television… we’re all about makin’ ourselves feel good (which is why we put everything on credit cards because we want what we can’t afford and we think it’s owed to us!)

Again, I love John Lennon, but honestly folks… Paul and George were still around… And why can’t we all just remember what John Lennon said? We do remember, we just don’t care. Same thing for Jesus, right? All those years ago (harrison reference) and we still remember what Jesus said, but we only follow it when it’s convenient for us. And besides, Bob Dylan has been here making fairly uninspired music all this time… I mean honestly people.

Start thinking for yourselves. Stop relying on others. Start taking an honest look at the world and the hippy movement and you’ll agree. Sure they meant well, but they changed the attitudes of America, but was it in the way they intended? The Hippy Generation unwittingly has caused the slow descent into crap that the world is now experiencing.

    But I digress…
