Self Important Jerk Hits iPod Glitch, Blames Music Industry
Dave Winer has to be one of the biggest self-righteous jerks on the internet. Check out this idiocy:
My iPod got stuck on an MP3 today, a legally downloaded podcast of a favorite public radio show. It won’t respond to any of the various magic keypresses, at least the ones I know of, and of course there’s no way to do a power cycle. And because of the DRM, there’s no backup, so even if I reformat the iPod, I’ll have to set up everything all over. Meanwhile the music industry says it’s all about piracy, that’s why Apple cripples this $400 (now worthless) piece of high design.
*sigh*
You would think that someone who prides himself on being so important to the tech community could actually get his stories straight enough to understand what was going on here.
This is a known bug with the latest version of the iPod firmware, and was just recently patched (this week or last) by Apple. It affects people listening to mono recordings (most podcasts are mono, Dave) and the EQ (why anyone uses the EQ on an iPod is beyond me; you get better sound with better headphones than you do with the EQ). Patch your iPod, and you’ll be fine. Or restore it, and connect it, and everything will be back.
Which leads me to my second point. What is there to “set up?” Here’s the procedure for “setting up” an iPod on a system with iTunes installed.
1. Plug cable into computer.
2. Plug iPod into cable.
Wow. Want me to do it for you, Dave?
Thirdly, you can back up any song you want in iTunes with or without DRM. It’s called the copy command and it’s built into most operating systems in one form or another. Try it out. You may find it useful for other tasks!
Finally, what the hell does the music industry have to do with this? Jesus Christ, Dave… I want to pat you on the back just for getting that many inaccuracies into 4 sentences!
Well done!
Now please… For the love of all that is holy… Keep your promise and stop blogging already. You’re a bore.
