Sledding Banned: Santa Said to be Appealing
This is how ridiculous the world has gotten:
Armed with plastic saucers, tubes and snowboards, sledders converged on the Zorinsky Lake dam Tuesday.
Tim Seeger and his daughter Kylie, 4, leave the slopes at Zorinsky Lake near 156th and F Streets after an afternoon of sledding Tuesday.
That won’t be the case for long.
Omaha was to announce today that it is banning sledding at the Zorinsky and Cunningham Lake dams, which are both popular sledding spots. It is also banning ice skating and ice fishing on frozen ponds and lagoons in city parks.
The move is in response to a decision by the Nebraska Supreme Court in September that the Recreational Liability Act does not protect public entities from liability for injuries that occur at public parks and other recreation facilities.
“The Supreme Court’s ruling could essentially result in lawsuits that would cost the City of Omaha millions of dollars each year,” said Omaha City Attorney Paul Kratz. “While these precautions may be unpopular, they are necessary to protect the taxpayers of Omaha.”
Maybe if judges weren’t such idiots, they’d still be open.

Hey Vinnie. My sister-in-law lived right next to Zorinsky Lake for nearly 15 years (until last year, actually). Gary and his family (including his niece and our two daughters) have been sledding there numerous times. I’ll tell you one thing, I can’t blame the city for this move at all. There are soooo many stupid people taking their kids there and being obnoxiously dangerous. Children and adults have been hurt - not seriously, that I can recall, but enough to walk away with a bloody nose or whatnot. In today’s day and age, with everyone suing everyone else over the stupidest things, most of which just require using common sense (i.e. bag of peanuts contains warning for stupid people that it may contain peanuts), honestly, I can’t blame them wanting to protect the tax payer’s dollars. While it may seem like a ridiculous move, I think it’s necessary until the ridiculous lawsuits are a thing of the past.
Just my nickle though…
(btw, check out Tony’s website and see their new daughter!!!)
