Everything seems to be anecdotal evidence when it comes to these types of stories, so here is mine! Last week I was about to jump on the PS3 bandwagon. During the week Target, Best Buy, and Walmart had them (and Wiis and XBoxes) in stock. Friday I headed to Best Buy to get one. They were out. Still Wiis and XBoxes though. Headed to Walmart. Same story. Headed to Target. They had plenty of the others but just one PS3 in a beat up box. I took it.

Who cares really, play what you like!

I’m still curious to know who bought all these systems. I still don’t know one single person that owns a PS3.

    Not one.

I do know people who bought ‘em and sold ‘em, but I don’t know any actual owners.

Also, comparing the Xbox (over a year old) and the Wii (Lots more were produced) isn’t really a fair comparison. I’m sure if Nintendo only let loose 2,000,000 units for the holidays and that was the max they could produce, we’d certainly not see any on shelves just like the PS3.

Anyway, I do agree. Play what you like. I just would love to bump into someone who “liked” a PS3 enough to own one.

The appeal of the PS3 to me (besides the Blu-Ray disc player which, truth be told, is the main reason I bought one now rather than waiting) is that I don’t lose access to the large library of games I already own. But from a newcomers perspective with no vested interest in any system the PS3 would not be my first choice due to the anemic amount of new games available. Yes, it will pick up and yes I think the “guts” of the system blow the competition away and will make for amazing games down the line when developers really learn to code for it. But c’mon! You’ve got to launch with more games than are available now!
