Hannity Destroys Gore, Gore Responds, I’m Confused.

I don’t agree with Sean Hannity much lately. In fact, I haven’t agreed with him on a large swath of issues in the last 3 years. There is one thing, however, that Sean does well, and that’s absolutely assassinate people with their own stupidity. If you slip up, he catches you, and he makes you look foolish.

This time, it’s Al Gore. The self-proclaimed and media-knighted savior of the environment and protector of the planet can’t seem to get away from his hypocrisy, this time in the form of his own trips on private planes. Seems Mr. Gore is a typical do what I say, not what I do politician.

Consider this video, in which Sean Hannity documents Al Gore’s trips around the country (and world) on private planes while decrying the damage we’re doing to the environment.

There are a few things of note in this video.

1. Sean Hannity doesn’t let any of the candidates that were running in 2000 off the hook, including George Bush and John McCain.

2. Sean Hannity documents everything he says with Gore’s own campaign records.

It’s not illegal in any way to take a private plane. It’s not illegal or unethical to borrow one and pay for the privilege of doing so. Hell, it’s not even illegal to be a hypocrite. But when you’re talking about being the savior of the environment and bitching about some shlub who drives an SUV, isn’t it a bit odd to be jet setting around the country in a private plane that is nowhere near fuel efficient?

Now what I find particularly interesting is the response from the Gore spokesdrone.

– In his private life, Gore tries to reduce his emissions as much as possible. He drives a hybrid, flies commercially whenever he can, and purchases green power. In the few instances where work has demanded that he travel privately, he purchases carbon offsets for the emissions.

He purchases what?

What the hell are carbon offsets?

In essence, you pass along some cash to an organzation that plants a tree, builds a windmill, or some similar “green” activity. Essentially, it’s a bunch of feel good bullshit for a rich guy who wants to look like he cares.

In other words Al Gore.

I hate do as I say and not as I do politicians. Really. It reminds me of that story we saw back in August of 2006. Truth is none of those folks were claiming to be the perfect carbon neutral examples either…

…Makes sense to me. Granted, it’s not environmentally concious and it happens to be terribly elitist but how else is he to get around so conveniently? As a high profile personality who is in such high demand, it is often necessary, I’m sure, to do so. It’s not like he’s accepting campaign donations and the use of a corporate jet in return for unprecedented white house access……..

    Bullshit.

I wasn’t before, but I am now a politician. And more specifically I am a “do as I do, not a do as I say, politician.” Also, I am not rich, therefore I can’t take a corporate jet. Heck I don’t even hardly ever fly. Only on one vacation actually. There and back, that is all I’ve ever flown. But we must start taking better care of the planet.
