Today’s Tenuous Connection…

To think that some people actually believe this crap

[N]ow, video games are being portrayed as the cause of a much graver threat; namely, the decline in Australian pet ownership.

As Australian Veterinary Association President Kersti Seksel told the Sydney Morning Herald (and any other outlet that would listen) today’s kids “interact more by playing computer games and less by going out there and throwing the ball to a dog.” Why is this a problem, exactly? According to Seksel, “We need to learn people skills, physical skills, and sitting in the lounge room with a computer doesn’t teach you that.”

Oh my Lord, is she serious? Wait, what am I saying, of course she is.

I have a hugely full schedule in my life. Between hosting and producing two podcasts, maintaining a smash-mega hit b-list blog, watching tv, hangin’ with the wife and family obligations, and all the other things I do in the world, guess what? I have a cat that I manage to make time for every single day because she’s our baby.

But that isn’t for most people. Frankly, I’d rather have a cat not go into a home where a family neglects the animal just because they don’t have time for it. One of the main reasons for the decline in animal ownership in general could be attributed to the fact that people have way more demands on their time now and they don’t want to commit to another mouth to feed and butt to wipe.

It isn’t outrageous to think that people actually have some forethought and decide not to get a pet for more reasons than Halo 3.

Just sayin’.
