Howard’s Delusions Smashed

American Idol producers put Howard Stern in his place once and for all. For weeks, Stern has been claiming that somehow his 1,000,000 listeners were keeping American Idol bottom-feeder Sanjaya Malakar in the competition.

That bravado is now dead.

The morning after Sanjaya Malakar turned in another memorable, winning performance on American Idol and inspired an audience member’s sign that read “Sanjaya is my Papaya,” one of the show’s executive producers says that we at Tabloid Baby were correct when we reported that Howard Stern listeners have nothing to do with his success in the competition.

Ken Warwick says that even if all of Howard’s listeners voted– or if any other radio campaign was started– they wouldn’t make up the difference that Sanjaya has over the contestants below him–or above him– in the weekly phone-in votes.

Oh well. So much for that bullshit. But then again, this is Howard we’re talking about, so the truth is just an inconvenience in the end after all… I just love seeing people put him in his place.

Too bad Sanjaya is still around, though. I was really hoping he would be gone last night, but instead one of my faves got the boot… AGAIN! Now that Chris S. and Gina are gone, all I have left is Jordin, Blake, and Chris R. I don’t know if I’ll watch live anymore, because those are the only three left that interest me.

But the Sanjaya story is interesting now. I think he stands a chance at winning. Not because he is talented (for the record, his performances make me want to rip my ears off,) but because he has so much hype behind him he could survive long enough to the finale.

But, I could be wrong. What do you think?

There’s a lot of talent in this year’s pool, but the only guy worth anything is Blake. Once Haley and Phil are gone, it’s going to be seriously difficult to pick a winner.

Blake has been great every week (totally surprising the hell out of me to be honest) and Jordin just keeps killing (and she’s adorable, which won’t hurt).

Overall, if they can get rid of Sanjaya, Haley, and Phil, this competition suddenly gets very intense.
