Congestion Pricing Won’t Hurt Most Manhattanites

Posted at 9:40 pm under Localized

When Chris asked me what I thought of congestion pricing, I pointed out that despite his objection to it, most people who would end up paying the congestion rate weren’t people who were just heading home, and instead were people who were too damn lazy to take public transportation.

In other words, exactly the people who congestion pricing targets.

As it turns out, that’s not just my speculation. It’s backed by statistics. Check out this map that was featured on Gothamist. The greener the color, the lower the number (click to embiggen if needed).

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

The truth is that no argument against congestion pricing stands up to any kind of analysis and I’m really glad that Gothamist published this map.
