What part of NO? Good question…

December 13th, 2007 by Vinny

Vidiot has taken umbrage at Representative Steve King (R-IA) trying to get a resolution passed honoring Christmas and Christians. Like most on the left, he uncharacteristically launches into the hysteria that usually accompanies anything that starts with the word “Christ” and ties it into the establishment clause. Like most on the left, however, he also fails spectacularly to be consistent and instead uses the establishment clause in a conversation about Christianity and not about Islam.

What’s that you say?

Well, here’s the text of the resolution he went guano-loco over, HR 845:

RESOLUTION
Recognizing the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith.

Whereas Christmas, a holiday of great significance to Americans and many other cultures and nationalities, is celebrated annually by Christians throughout the United States and the world;

Whereas there are approximately 225,000,000 Christians in the United States, making Christianity the religion of over three-fourths of the American population;

Whereas there are approximately 2,000,000,000 Christians throughout the world, making Christianity the largest religion in the world and the religion of about one-third of the world population;

Whereas Christians identify themselves as those who believe in the salvation from sin offered to them through the sacrifice of their savior, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and who, out of gratitude for the gift of salvation, commit themselves to living their lives in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Bible;

Whereas Christians and Christianity have contributed greatly to the development of western civilization;

Whereas the United States, being founded as a constitutional republic in the traditions of western civilization, finds much in its history that points observers back to its roots in Christianity;

Whereas on December 25 of each calendar year, American Christians observe Christmas, the holiday celebrating the birth of their savior, Jesus Christ;

Whereas for Christians, Christmas is celebrated as a recognition of God’s redemption, mercy, and Grace; and

Whereas many Christians and non-Christians throughout the United States and the rest of the world, celebrate Christmas as a time to serve others: Now, therefore be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives–

(1) recognizes the Christian faith as one of the great religions of the world;

(2) expresses continued support for Christians in the United States and worldwide;

(3) acknowledges the international religious and historical importance of Christmas and the Christian faith;

(4) acknowledges and supports the role played by Christians and Christianity in the founding of the United States and in the formation of the western civilization;

(5) rejects bigotry and persecution directed against Christians, both in the United States and worldwide; and

(6) expresses its deepest respect to American Christians and Christians throughout the world.

And here’s the resolution it was based on, commemorating Ramadan, HR 635:

H. Res. 635
In the House of Representatives, U. S.,

October 2, 2007.

Whereas it is estimated that there are approximately 1,500,000,000 Muslims worldwide;

Whereas since the terrorist attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001, some threats and incidents of violence have been directed at law-abiding, patriotic Americans of African, Arab, and South Asian descent, particularly members of the Islamic faith;

Whereas, on September 14, 2001, the House of Representatives passed a concurrent resolution condemning bigotry and violence against Arab-Americans, American Muslims, and Americans from South Asia in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the United States;

Whereas some extremists have attempted to use selective interpretations of Islam to justify and encourage hatred, persecution, oppression, violence and terrorism against the United States, the West, Israel, other Muslims, and non-Muslims;

Whereas some Muslims in the United States and abroad have courageously spoken out in rejection of interpretations of Islam that justify and encourage hatred, violence, and terror, and in support of interpretations of and movements within Islam that justify and encourage democracy, tolerance and full civil and political rights for Muslims and those of all faiths;

Whereas Ramadan is the holy month of fasting and spiritual renewal for Muslims worldwide, and is the 9th month of the Muslim calendar year; and

Whereas the observance of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan commenced at dusk on September 13, 2007, and continues for one lunar month: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives–

(1) recognizes the Islamic faith as one of the great religions of the world;

(2) expresses friendship and support for Muslims in the United States and worldwide;

(3) acknowledges the onset of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting and spiritual renewal, and conveys its respect to Muslims in the United States and throughout the world on this occasion;

(4) rejects hatred, bigotry, and violence directed against Muslims, both in the United States and worldwide; and

(5) commends Muslims in the United States and across the globe who have privately and publicly rejected interpretations and movements of Islam that justify and encourage hatred, violence, and terror.

Wow. The only thing I can assume is that Vidiot never saw the one that passed in October, because if he had, I’m sure he would’ve been equally annoyed, outraged, and indignant over the obvious attempt to establish a Muslim Caliphate right here in our own back yard. Seeing as Vidiot is touting his knowledge of the Constitution, I would think that he would also have a few similar choice words for Representative Eddie Johnson (D-TX) over his similarly worded resolution, and I await those words with baited breath.

Notice, I said baited, not held.

Really Pretty But… Well…

I was going through some videos on my hard drive and I found this gem I grabbed off my DVR last year. My parents were over for Christmas and we were watching 1 vs. 100 and this beautiful girl came out. Watch in wonder as she is completely stumped by this question…

Podtech Loses Scoble: Slowly Drags Other Foot Into Grave

December 12th, 2007 by Vinny

Holy crap, now this is an interesting piece of news. Fresh off Podtech building that brand new studio that Robert Scoble gave us a tour of a few months ago (even if briefly), we now see that Robert is moving full-time to Fast Company.

Scoble isn’t saying if he’ll continue to use the same format as his current show, ScobleShow, where he interviews entrepreneurs daily. Another big question is whether his sponsor, Seagate, will follow him to Fast Company. It’s rumored Seagate is paying a massive fee to sponsor the show.

This is another blow for PodTech, which has already lost its founding CEO and is nearly out of money. The company has run through $7.5 million in funding. They are rumored to be closing on another million or so in bridge financing. But they’re very, very close to the deadpool.

Let’s see… First they shitcan my friend Loren Feldman.

Then Irina Slutsky takes a walk.

Now Scoble is on his way out the door headed for obviously greener pastures.

Podtech is dead.

I guess, on the brightside, they still have that absolute fuck-knuckle Jay Smooth and God knows he’s a network savior…

Curtis Tells Us All To Calm Down (NSFW)

December 12th, 2007 by Vinny

Drew Curtis wants everyone to calm down

About the NSFW Trademark Application, I can say three things:

1) Yes, we applied for it.

2) Can’t comment on the prank angle other than “stay tuned.”

3) Muhahaha.

I’ve gotten a few email complaints about the NSFW trademark ap. It bears mentioning that I received 10x as many complaints about the DealNews ad with the picture of some guy’s ass in it (removed already, whoever over at DealNews thought that was a good idea needs to be punched in the face), and 100x as many complaints when we moved all the boobies links over to Foobies.com (NSFW™). There’s an interesting yet unsurprising cross section of the priorities of an Internet audience for you.

I’m guessing the complaints are from people who don’t read Fark, otherwise they’d know our end goal couldn’t possibly be suing everyone using NSFW out of existence.

Actually, Drew, I never thought you were going to sue anyone out of existence, and I do regularly read Fark, but that doesn’t change the fact that until proven otherwise, your application for a trademark on a phrase you didn’t invent makes you look like an asshole until further notice.

I await being proven wrong.

Knicks Cite Fans as Cause for Sucking Ass

December 12th, 2007 by Vinny

If this isn’t classic “it ain’t my fault” bullshit, I don’t know what is…

“It’s real hard. I ain’t never been in a situation like that and I don’t understand,” Randolph said. “I guess they say it’s New York fans, but you know it’s real tough. Honestly. Especially for me, because I’ve never experienced every time a player walks off the court you’re booing.

“Everywhere else, in Portland, fans were a big part of our team. Fans are a big part of every team everywhere you go. We need the fans to be supportive with us, even when we’re down.”

Thomas and Crawford say fans don’t come to the Garden planning to boo, although the jeering starts when the coach is announced during pregame introductions. Thomas thinks that’s contributing to the Knicks’ poor starts.

Luckily Randolphi is one of the few semi-bright spots on a barely mediocre team or I’d really lay into him for this asinine remark. I have to wonder, though, if the Knicks have actually taken to just blaming the fans for their crap performance this season?

If you think about it, they’d have a great model to work with.

Dolan says that he’s happy with the job Isiah’s doing this year. What, specifically, I don’t know. The team has nothing to show for all that pride uncle Jimbo is showing in his team.

The coach of the team also sees progress in the team. Where? Well, who the hell knows. Maybe Eddie Curry is going to actually run up and down the court once or twice. That would be amazing progress from where they are now with Curry acting like he’s glued to the floor.

So if Dolan doesn’t think the Coach is the problem, and the Coach doesn’t think the team is the problem, then the team has to blame someone, so it might as well be the fans.

The Knicks have given up on the city, the team and the legacy of people like Patrick Ewing, Walt Frazier, Bill Bradley, Earl Monroe, and Bernard King. It’s time the city returned the favor.

Drew Curtis Wants to Own NSFW

December 11th, 2007 by Vinny

No shit fuckwad? You really want to own “Not safe for work?

Entertainment Services namely providing a website featuring photographic, audio, video and prose presentations featuring comedic captions regarding current events and online discussions and/or reviews of web materials of an adult nature; Entertainment services, namely, providing a web site featuring musical performances, musical videos, related film clips, photographs, and other multimedia materials; Entertainment services, namely, providing on-line reviews of photogrpahs and /or web postings of an adult nature.

Nope. They’re not kidding. I can’t support Fark anymore. Frankly, this is ridiculous, and Drew Curtis should be completely and totally ashamed of himself for this one. A guy who was once a pioneer of the internet is now a money grubbing trademark whore.

Screw you Drew.

Outrage from Underreporting and Evil White People

December 11th, 2007 by Vinny

I was once told by a guy who’s relatively smart that I shouldn’t be so outraged by what the media chooses to report and what they choose to ignore, and I shouldn’t be sitting around wondering where the outrage was when a story doesn’t have people rioting in the streets.  I was told that it was simply a partisan device, and I’ve been chastised for it more times than I care to count.

You would think that, knowing this, the person in question wouldn’t fall into that same trap after chucking me into the wood chipper, but it doesn’t work that way.

In Australia, a cockeyed judge made an idiotic ruling that a ten-year-old girl agreed to have sex with a group of people that were later charged with raping her, resulting in suspended sentences for the group.

Of course, the "she’s not white" card was played pretty much instaneously, along with the "woe is me, there’s no outrage, boo fucking hoo" card.

Sure she did you racist sack of shit your honour, all 10 year old girls have the capacity to make such a decision.

I’m not gonna bother asking if the judge would have arrived at the same conclusion if it had been a little white girl who was gang raped but somehow I can imagine it would be somewhat different than a bunch of suspended sentences

Now, I’m not arguing the validity of his gripe.  The idea that a ten-year-old can consent to sex in the first place is laughable, but is it racism or stupidity?

There’s something about the left that loves racism and it usually follows this mould.  Lately, we’ve seen it a lot with the "pretty white girl" crimes or the case where a white family had a bunch of kids and got a lot of attention while a black family that had the same number of kids got no attention.  It was, after all, because they were white.  And Natalie Holloway, of course, is only a story because she’s white.

It’s silly victimhood, and it’s annoying.  This judge, as Stageleft says, should be flogged in the public square for this idiotic opinion and the suspended sentencing of people who raped a little girl, but playing the race card is old, boring, and tiring.  Contrary to the left’s assertions, not everything in the world is the product of a racist biased culture.  Some things are better chalked up to good old fashioned stupidity.

    Garnished? You’re a fucking idiot, dude…

    December 10th, 2007 by Vinny

    Long story short…

    Brett Petersel, the loser who wants people to set him up on a date and is willing to pay $25 for it wants to set up a faux site with he and Julia Allison (former girlfriend of Vimeo founder Jakob Lodwick) acting kinda like a spoof couple.

    Or something.

    Anyway, he sent her a message on Facebook, and somehow Valleywag got their hands on it. I shit you not, this is what it said:

    Did he really just say “garnished” some attention?

    Wow. No wonder he can’t get a date. He’s a fucking moron.

    Stop Defining Yourself By Your Kids, k?

    December 8th, 2007 by Vinny

    Watch the first few minutes of this video. You’ll get the point really quickly…

    The scene at the beginning of the post is endemic of a huge problem with “adults” in the year 2007. Every single person who has a kid finds the need to constantly update the world on every time the kid eats, sleeps, or takes a crap.

    I have a lot of friends who have kids, and I consider it a burden. Why? Because every time you go out with them you have to hear about how Cody, Shyler, Coral, or some other stupid-assed name they picked because it looked good in a Lord of the Rings book had their first piss, fingerpainting lesson, bike ride, etc. Don’t even attempt to ask these experts on child-rearing to have a conversation that doesn’t involve telling you how unbelievably awesome their child is because the conversation will, as it did in the video above, inevitably changes to “Speaking of mass murderer Jeffrey Dahmer, did I tell you that my Drew shaved the cat yesterday?”

    I’m all for kids. I don’t blame them for their parents’ obsession with them. What I do blame their parents for, however, is their utter ability to have an adult conversation that doesn’t involve how to get the stains out that their little angel left on their shirt after breastfeeding from mom’s already overworked nipples.

    Sorry, not interested folks.

    Here’s a note to parents. Don’t tell us you want an adult conversation if your idea of an adult conversation involves talking about the effects of young Cassidy on your sex life. That’s not adult conversation in my book.

    Take a read of this bit from an article I always keep handy because it pretty much sums up my feelings on the way parents have started acting in the last fifteen years (it could be longer; I’m just talking about the time since I started noticing these sorts of things)…

    Today’s generation of children is the most closely observed, monitored, cherished and scheduled in our history. They are also the most praised. Families are smaller, and there are fewer children upon whom parents can beam their attention.

    Today there are moms and dads who aren’t just parents — they believe in “parenting.” They read volumes and volumes about how to be good parents and view parenting as both an art and a science that must be studied and updated and practiced self-consciously. Letting children run around the neighborhood and be bored some of the time is anathema to them.

    Many parents these days don’t expect their children to contribute much around the house, although they do expect them to achieve outside the house. They have strong beliefs about what makes children successful and happy-ever-after, and underpinning those beliefs is the concept that they — the parents — are all-important in this quest. Such parents believe that self-esteem is the key to lifetime success, and to this end they compliment their children a lot.

    They are egalitarian, and they believe families should be democracies. Needless to say, they don’t give orders. They believe that children will do things when they are ready to. They ask their child politely if he or she will do something and are surprised and dismayed when the response is “no.”

    It’s as if parents have rewritten the Fourth Commandment to read, “Honor thy children.”

    As much as you may love your kids, please don’t constantly bore me with stories about them. One or two is okay, but frankly if your whole life involves what your oddly-named child did at school that day, and your first instinct is to introduce yourself as “Brecken’s Mommy” then you probably have an identity crisis you need to deal with before you can hang out with real-world adults.

    Do yourself a favor… Iron those out, and then call me so we can talk about more than the difference between the Wiggles and Dora the Explorer.
