All I can say is, I've watched many of the debates and followed the race for a while and I never got the impression that he was beating it into the audiences in the same way Rudy did with 9/11. Anyways, this whole thing about "chasing ambulances" is ridiculous, you've been watching too much of the Simpsons. Is getting clients compensation for being harmed really that bad? And anyways, he wasn't always rich. You can't put a penalty on success. He worked hard and got his reward for it, what's the problem? I dunno. The guy lost his son, and now the same may happen to his wife. Many of you know that I am the son of a mill worker — that I rose from modest means and have been blessed in so many ways in life. Elizabeth and I have so much to be grateful for.

And all of you know about some of the challenges we have faced in my family. But there came a time, a few months ago, when Elizabeth and I had to decide, in the quiet of a hospital room, after many hours of tests and getting pretty bad news — what we were going to do with our lives.

And we made our decision. That we were not going to go quietly into the night — that we were going to stand and fight for what we believe in.

As for the part about being poor and uderstanding the poor, you’re right. You don’t have to be poor to understand the poor. That being said, a guy living in a huge house making millions chasing ambulances probably has very little perspective on poverty.

I'm not poor but I can understand the hardships they face. I'm not black but I can understand the effects of racism. You don't necessarily have to be something in order to understand it. Besides, while he wasn't poor, he was born in a middle-class family and that's generally the audience he reaches out for. As for his wife, I can't recall ever hearing him once mention it on the campaign except the day it was announced. Elizabeth also appeared on several talk shows but she never brought it up.
