Idol Top 10: David Cook KILLS It
I’m a huge fan of Chris Cornell’s remake of Billie Jean and when I heard David Cook was going to be performing it last night, I groaned. I honestly expected him to ruin it. I couldn’t have been more wrong…
Utterly and completely brilliant.
Speaking of Idol, here are top remaining performances as I saw them in order of their awesomeness:
Brooke White: “Every Step You Take”
Michael Johns: “We Will Rock You / We Are The Champions”
Syesha Mercado: “If I Were Your Woman”
These four are so much better than the other six, it’ll be a miracle if they aren’t the final four. They really did prove why they’re top notch.

Note to Jason Castro: I like you but enough with the folksy stuff already! SING SOMETHING! David Archuleta has a great voice but he suffers from Lakisha syndrome: on every song he sounds the same regardless of the genre, original artist, etc. You know what each song is gonna sound like before he even opens his mouth. Kristy Lee Cook can sing but her performances are nothing spectacular. Chikezie sounds like every other male r&b singer out there. I haven’t heard anything that sets him apart from them.

I don’t care what anybody says. David Cook should be arrested for crimes against my earballs. Jason Castro, Michael Johns, Carly, and Kristy Lee were the standouts for me.

David Cook may be using other people’s covers, but he is really great. He’s the one I’m always looking to hear each week, and he’s the one that I invariably download.
Brook should have stood up, grabbed the mike and gave the song some energy during the “Since you’re gone, I’ve been lost…” part. She always starts cool, but doesn’t go anywhere… but I can’t help but like her.
Michael Johns is good, but he doesn’t really add anything to the songs he sings. Jason Castro has had some really good moments, but he needs to change things up a bit. Archuleta is just too young… not mature enough, and it’s really showing. This weeks song choice by him was HORRIBLE. And he’s just too goofy. Kristy Lee picked the perfect song, but that song should really be sung by someone who can infuse more feeling and who has a more powerful voice… so it fell flat to me.
Syesha did a great job, but I didn’t really connect with the song. I like her version of “Yesterday”. I know she can sing, but she only impressed me last week and this week… if she goes back to being boring (whitney and mariah crap), I can’t feel like she’s top four quality.
My top: #1 David Cook #2 Carly #3 Michael Johns #4 Brooke

David Cook may very well be using other peoples cover versions, but Idol isn’t an original showcase. He will always get my vote because he is just good at what he does. I really think he’ll take it…
