Uplifting Black People, Episode 1

I’m tired of double standards, so I’m on a mission to shatter them.

You know, there are certain things in this world that I just do not get. Just a sample (in no particular order):

When black women were kept as slaves and treated like property over a hundred years ago they wore kerchiefs tied around their heads. Fast forward to the present time and what do I see all over the place? Black women wearing kerchiefs tied around their heads. They fought so hard to lose that image of themselves as field workers and now they CHOOSE to promote it. I don't get it.

Same era: black females were treated as property and from my understanding, were raped, resulting in children born out of wedlock. At that time black women had no choice since they had no freedom. Fast forward to the present time and again, what do I see all over the place? Young black females with babies and instead of a ring on their finger, each one has a baby daddy. Nowadays, they have the freedom to make their own decisions and they're CHOOSING to be unwed single mothers. I don't get it.

Women in general have a history of being known more for their looks than any other aspect of their being. For years women have fought against that image, insisting they have brains, too. (Because we do!) Black women have had it especially hard, with the double whammy of being both black and female. Fast forward to the present time and what are black women generally known for? Accepting and even embracing being called bitches and ho's, and CHOOSING to dress like strippers and jiggle their booty in rap videos. I don't get it.

It seems as if black women in general are moving backward to a time when they had no choice but to live their lives this way. And it's shameful, imho. They should be trying to lift themselves up rather than keeping themselves down. It's the least they can do for their children, let alone themselves.

It's a shame no one calls these people to task on this. Gold teeth, bling, fast cars, jiggling sluts... it really is a horrible message to send forth to the kids to see.

I remember when rap was "All you sucka MC's" and stuff like that... just bragging on how good your rhymes were and how good you could break-dance. The culture went downhill once you make it all about being gangsta.

Like I said... for every Will Smith, there are a million Little Waynes. For every Bill Cosby or Barak Obama trying to lift the morals and standards of the community up, there's a lot more Al Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons to cry foul on "the white man".

It's sick. It's disgusting. And as a white guy, it's not my fault. Blame BET, blame Vibe, blame Sharpton and Jackson, but don't blame me. And don't blame the government.
  • I'm working on it. Won't be easy, though.
  • Hmmm. Keep trying. lol.
