IT.tv Episode 15: Two Percent

We keep hearing about how obscene the profits of the oil companies are, but is it any better that the government is pulling in only two percent less than that? Distributed by Tubemogul.

  • Dude, you called on the evil "monopolizing" Arabs to lower prices, LOL! They are not drilling any less oil. The speculators drove the price of oil up and they are the ones driving it down now, seems they sucked all they could out of people and now a lot can't drive. It has nothing to do with threatening the middle east with drilling...LOL!

Bill Moyers is a jackass and if he said the sky was blue, I’d look up and make sure.

Of course you would, you wingnuts have a hard time with reality...it having a liberal bias and all...
  • A: Bill Moyers is a jackass and if he said the sky was blue, I'd look up and make sure.

B: Enough with the dollar signs. We get it. Big Oil = Big Dollars.

C: Our government is not the "common man." They bear no resemblance to a common man in any sense of the word. It's a big corporation run for the bettering of who has the biggest mouth and can get the most pork. Just a bunch of elitist nannies who like to tell people who and what to do at all times. And that's on BOTH sides.

Now to the discussion at hand:

You and I both agree on alternative fuels and energy (I happen to be a big fan of solar energy, myself), but that's a long term solution. In the short term, what's the answer?

The fact is they're profiteering with 17 cents on the dollar, and the government (those fine common men and women) are riding that wave of cash nicely while condemning those same companies from the other side of their mouth. It's despicable.

It's even more despicable that so many people are willing to accept that oil companies are evil and that big government taking more and more out of the pockets of corporations is A O K. This country has become a bunch of "as long as I get my pork I'm happy" douchebags. Sure. Let's tax the oil companies right out of profitability. Hell, let's take it all away. Frankly, I live in New York City, so I don't give a shit. Ain't a whole lot of oil drillin' going on up here. You, on the other hand, may want to move, because your state's gonna be bankrupt.

I'm all for finding long-term solutions. I wish we were doing more today right now and immediately, but the reality is we still in the immediate time being need lots of oil and we need to get the price down. Luckily, talking about drilling has done a hell of a job of getting the price per barrel down ($15 a barrel is quite nice), but that isn't going to last forever and taking more money out of the pockets of Exxon isn't going to solve the problem either.

Somewhere in the middle is the answer, and we need to start looking for it.
  • The simple answer is they only see the profits as obscene when they aren’t going into some big government program.

Come on Vinny, more profits for $BigOil$ directly correlates to MORE money for our government from tax revenues. Cutting taxes on gas only helps $BigOil$ and ignores the common man(our government).

The consolidation of these companies makes it necessary to tax them at these lopsided rates. Too bad so sad. They should be proud that they can contribute so much to our society while still making enormous profits. But raping us for as much of our GDP as possible is a non-starter.

Besides, the point should be to get off fossil fuels ASAP. Carter was correct in 1979...

  • That same fascist leaning GOVERNMENT that's collecting almost as much in profits as the obscene Exxon?

What the hell are you babbling about?

My point is pretty clear. If the government (state / federal / local) was serious about doing something about gas prices, and they think that these companies are making obscene profits and should make less, why not cut taxes on the gas and take in less than they are, considering they're taking in as much of a profit as the companies to begin with?

    It's a pretty simple question.

The simple answer is they only see the profits as obscene when they aren't going into some big government program.

And trust me... Nothing's changing under Obama if he wins or McCain if he wins, so I hope to see you back here in a few months when you're still paying a ton for gas and you can explain to me how the oil industry is in bed with the fascist right wing Democrat administration.

    Use your head.
  • LOL!

To start with, the 70's pron intro doesn't suit you. I mean, come on? Really?

Second, your math leaves out a ton of variable. Like, mainly, a fascist leaning administration LETTING $BigOil$ gobble up as much of our GDP as they can con us out of!

It is not THE government, asshole, it's OUR government. So excuse me, I don't care if you get offended when we fight for it...get used to it...
  • Shame you're not smart enough to actually address the post.
  • Maybe we should just drill in your chin? What do you think, 20 to 30 barrels a day?
