    I dunno. I have mixed feelings about that article. I mean yeah, it’s one cent, it’s not a big deal, but at the same time, they ARE wasting tax payer money to ask for an amount less than being charged.

    At the same time, it’s a cent. big whoop. Just pay it, no need to “have your blood pressure rise”

    Conversely, [paraphrase]“…it’s not fiscally reasonable to have staff weed out the the bills that are below a certain amount.” Well, gee, I think that’s why we have computers. Sitting right here in my office at work, I can think of pseudo-code for this. Obviously they have software that retrieves the records/accounts, simply add a filter to it:

    int stamp_cost = 42;

    if (amount_owed > stamp_cost)
    {
    //code to return data/print it out
    }

    that took me thirty seconds to think it out and write the mock-up. This way, the software isn’t forgiving the debt, it’s just saving it for next billing cycle.

    Also, couldn’t one argue that the damages done (one cent) is not significant enough damage to justify a property lien?

    Yeah, that’s what gets me -a fucking property lien over 1 fucking penny. It undoubtedly cost the government more than $.01 in wages to place the lien on the house. Common sense? Of course not… I also happen to think that the woman who defended the lien seems like a condescending cunt!
