No, I’m not kidding. Yesterday (Independence Day for those of you outside our borders), the Vice President of the United States was at Camp Victory in Iraq and performed a naturalization ceremony where 237 servicepeople were sworn in as citizens of the US. Heady stuff, right? So how does old foot in the mouth Biden address the crowd?
“As corny as it sounds, damn, I’m proud to be an American.”
Wait, what? As corny as it sounds?
My head is still spinning that a Vice President could be so hopelessly stupid. At a military base where he’s swearing in new citizens surrounded by soldiers on ground he couldn’t step on a few years ago on Independence Day, Joe Biden felt it necessary to express that being proud to be an American is “corny.”
There are no words.
For all of George W. Bush’s many verbal gaffes, none of them were on this level. Not a single one. Of course, that would be presuming this was a mistake on his part; my guess is that it isn’t and he meant it because this is the kind of thing that the left throws at the right all the time. Patriotism is corny to them.
That our Vice President could say such a thing under such circumstances defies all common sense, reason, and rationalization.
