I have confidence that our justice system will give this asshole Khalid Shaikh Mohammed a fair trial, or at the very least the most fair trial he could ever hope to attain. We are not perfect but a trial by jury is the best we can do. I also believe that we will see a guilty verdict. That’s because, as flawed as our system is, as flawed as human prosecutors and human judges and human jurors can be, our system is better than bad. It has its flaws as we’ve seen in the case of Cameron Todd Willingham or abuses of power by police and prosecutors. While we should always seek to improve it I think right now I still believe in our system. All those things that supposedly make America great – I believe in them. If you hear someone screaming that we can’t have Mohammed tried in a federal court ask them what good these courts are then.
Yep.
This trial will be a show trial. It will be a showcase of how committed this nation is to the idea of real justice, despite the missteps it, we, have taken in the past eight years.
