Living in So Cal, we have quite a few In-N-Outs, and my wife and I love them. You nailed it; the restaurants are always clean, the ingredients taste fresh, the staff is friendly.. I've never had a bad experience at an In-N-Out.

Just don't go through the drive-through at lunch, you'll be waiting quite a while :)

Plenty of CA natives LOVE in-n-out, myself included. It's quick, fresh, high quality, clean, and they treat their employees well. We used to go a couple times per month. I have yet to get such pleasant service at any other fast food joint. Can't wait until they come to central TX-- one of two things I miss about CA (Trader Joe's is the other). Now I'm drooling.

You are right, it's not so much the burger, it's not an earth-shatteringly wonderful hamburger, but it is GOOD. And you can watch the teenagers working in the back slicing potatoes - SEEING the fresh potatoes makes you feel better about your fries. The simplicity of their menu is a welcome change from the multitude of combos and "extra value" meals with countless substitutions that are available at other fast food establishments. You know what you're getting and you know how much it will cost. The "secret menu" also makes you feel like an insider, a special customer - and they are making a special meal just for you. Patrons can sense the value in the service they receive and the quality of their food, something that many fast food restaurants lack these days.
